I am currently taking UWorld Roger CPA Review. I love Roger video. He is so exciting. His book is very easy to understand. His mcq explanations is very clear. I am very much dedicated to study with him. My problem is that every time i make a study plan within two weeks i am off the plan because i fall behind because i am a slow reader. It takes me time to understand like a lot of time. But ones i understand it i am ok.

My second question is what do you do with questions that you do and you got it wrong and when you read the answer explanations you don’t have a clue what the heck they are talking about. Any one has that problem and was able to tackle it. Usually i understand everything but 5% are not clear to me. Any idea?

I have used Roger for 3/4 and am on the 4th (BEC). I personally do not read the book unless I don't understand something. I follow along in it during the videos, but I do not separately read it. I also do not take notes except for creating a VERY SHORT sheet of mnemonics and formulas. So I really only spend time on videos and MCQ.

I make my study plan looking at the length of the videos and the number of MCQs per section so that I give myself enough time. This has required modifying his study planners because they put too much per day. I spend about 2 hours each weekday and 4 hours each weekend day studying and about 7-8 weeks for FAR and REG and 5-6 weeks for AUD and BEC (I work in audit).

Sometimes if I don't understand an MCQ explanation I will go to the “Study Hub” and search for key words from the question. It doesn't work to search the question # since the question #s changed when Roger was bought by UWorld. For a couple of FAR topics I watched youtube videos (Prof. Farhat) if I was really having a hard time.

Wow MB, I was just struggling with whether to spend the money on Roger or not. I have surgent, but it feels like another Wiley. So I have lost interest. I like roger's videos and am enjoying the free trial. I am just shame to spend money again. or just suck it up and make myself use surgent. I cant afford the full package, but if I can just pass Far….

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

“i fall behind because i am a slow reader”

Then find some other way to study. Focus on watching vids, do MCQs where there won't be too much reading, or just read faster. That last one's especially important. When I started on Wiley, the teachers kept saying to read questions SLOWLY. That's cool if you don't know what to expect. But after thousands of MCQs, they're all sorta coming together to the point where I can almost skim a question and know what to expect from it. No, you shouldn't skip anything in a question, but with practice you can almost see the question coming beforehand, or know the answer faster. Also, get yourself into certain habits like reading the question at the end first BEFORE reading the opening sentences.

“when you read the answer explanations you don't have a clue what the heck they are talking about”

That's usually a sign of this being one of your weaker areas that you need to brush up on. Go back to the study materials, watch Roger vids or something on Youtube or check out Investopedia. Or just plain old move on, because you can NOT afford to stay on any one subject for too long. Those few times you're not gonna completely get it are few compared to how much other stuff you need to pick up on as you go along. Studying should be like a runaway freight train, just keep it going and NEVER pull the brakes just cuz you didn't get an MCQ now and again. Better to pick up on other stuff you know nothing on than to focus on something you know only a little of.
