Why isn’t Ninja MCQ working for me?!?!

    NINJA Question –

I used Ninja MCQ and notes for all four parts and I thought it was working. But for some reason it isn’t working for AUD. I used Ninja when I took the exam in November, 2015 and I was trending in the low 80s so I felt confident for the exam and I ended up with a 66.

With my current go around in February, I used CPAExcel to study the material and did all of their MCQs once. I then took notes on all of the different areas, reread the notes, and redid the Ninja MCQs. This time I did about 1,100 and only did each question once to make sure I was not memorizing the answers. I ended up with an average score of 71 and trending of 83. On the actual exam I got 64 – WTF am I doing wrong?!?!

Hey BigK – I think you should just do the ninja MCQs a few times through, as once is simply not enough. Even if you memorize some answers, read ALL of the incorrect answers and why they are wrong. This will help you when you see curveballs on the exam, as it will allow you to reason through tricky scenarios.

I have passed Audit with an 78 using Roger/Wiley material. When that expired, I used only ninja MCQs and got an 84.

HOWEVER…my first 3 runs at audit were 52%,62%,71% only using Roger. The material itself was problably sufficient for a first time pass, but I did not go through the MCQs enough. Repitition with the homework seems to be the sure way to a higher/passing score in my complete honest opinion. You got this man, just buckle down and smash as many questions and sims as possible.

Everyone is different, but 1100 MCQs would not be enough for me. I had over 2000 question attempts and 45 hours my last time on NINJA AUD MCQs, plus the Becker lectures, MCQs and Sims- probably 150 to 200 hours plus NINJA. I tried to take in the same information in as many different ways I had available. Also, I have learned not to stretch studying out too long, or I forget what I studied first. I use the NINJA method- watch all lectures (or read book if you can’t stand the lecturers) and take notes on the whole book, go back and do all MCQs, go back and do all Sims, then do NINJA MCQs for review. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for your responses – I really appreciate it.

I am still waiting for my score report, but when I initially left the exam I felt really good about the MCQs, and thought I blew the SIMS. Did you do anything specific to get better at them?

I think I only passed AUD because I was able to use the AL for 1 entire sim

I did the Becker sims and it helped make me better at the exam sims. I also looked over the AL and was familiar with each part and what it covered. I used the AL on 4 sims out of 7 on the exam. Repetition was key for me- I need to do NINJA MCQs until I reach around 80 trending in order to pass.

i feel the same way about Ninja MCQ, it didn't seem to do wonders for me as it did for REG & BEC. i took Audit twice using Ninja MCQ solving little over 1000 problems. 1000 were enough for me for REG & BEC but not for AUD.

before i ended up passing, i solved all Ninja MCQ questions, was trending 100% but ended up with only 80 (while my total average was 89). what i did extra this time was reading the entire sections on my weak areas (of the Wiley) and doing all questions in the Wiley. i even listened to some FAR lectures on my way to work. also when you're solving Ninja MCQ's, read every single explanation given at the bottom of the question, this will help you broaden your understanding regarding a specific topic asked in the question. i also took ton of notes and was reading them at times (like when i'm waiting at various places like the grocery store etc)

for some stats on my effort: i ended up with 70 pages of notes (excluding formulas). for this time, i put in 190 hours. last exam, i put in 150 hours.

haven't sat yet but thought I'd throw this in there. When I find myself recognizing a question and kind of “autopilot” selecting the answer, I instead try to write down why the other three answers are incorrect. This forces me not to just memorize the answers but to understand the underlying concepts.

    Hope this helps!

Yeah I would also like to add: When reading the MCQs read all of the wording if it seems like a familiar question and always eliminate wrong answers in your head. This can help you with questions that you may have no idea what the answer is.

Audit is very tricky because one simple word can change an entire answer. Words like MUST/NEVER/ALWAYS/Sometimes/etc can make it so that you almost believe that 2 of the 4 choices are correct, and its highly possible, but which one is MORE correct is what you should be able to reason through.

I think you have to analyze the actual questions. With Becker, I found they made the actual questions difficult to understand. There were double negatives and other plays on words. However, the answers were easier, meaning, usually the correct answer pretty obvious. A choice of one.

I found the actual AUD exam to have rather straightforward questions, but there were sometimes 3 or 4 good answers. So the folks at Becker are testing your ability to break down a question, but challenge with the actual exam is choosing the best answer.

Does this make sense? Or, am I imagining something?
