    NINJA Question –

Hi! I’m new to the forum and was hoping I could get some advice on my study materials.

I have a history of buying materials and not doing anything with them and I’m sick of it and ready to just get the CPA exam over with. I was provided the Becker materials around 2010, I bought a Yaeger section in 2011, bought the entire 2012 Yaeger set, and have just purchased the 2014 Yaeger update for AUD.

Out of all that I took and passed BEC once and that studied some for FAR, but never even applied to sit.

My plan was to buy the Yaeger updates 1 at a time as I move onto each section, but I’m only about 1.5 weeks into AUD and just the update is not going to be enough. I like the set-up, but it is not review friendly and I’m a firm believer that repetition is learning. 🙂

I’m thinking about going ahead and getting the full 10 point combo package and using it with the Yaeger AUD materials then evaluating whether to continue with Yaeger updates. Or just getting the NINJA notes and flashcards and using them Yaeger, oh and I need a testbank to practice with because the Yaeger updates don’t include that.

I feel like the 10 point combo is the best option, but I’m afraid that I’m trying to throw money at the problem. Any suggestions?

    AUD- 95
    FAR- 75
    BEC- 83
    REG- 85

I don't know anything about Yaeger, but I like the 10 point combo and find it very helpful. It doesn't cost too much either– excellent value for the price.

It sounds like your biggest issue is motivation– why are you going for the CPA? Why are you having a hard time committing to studying and sitting for the exams? You don't need to answer– those are rhetorical questions that may help you get focused so you can commit to doing it, or decide not to if it's not what you really want. These are really hard tests that take a great deal of motivation to get through, so it's important to figure out if it's what you really want before undertaking it.

What helps me, once I decided I was doing it, was to print out a calendar and map out a schedule for myself. I had to be honest with myself about distractions (would I really be a good studier during busy season or anime convention prep time), how much I can actually study per week, etc. I included blackout months and score releases on my calendar so that I could plan it all out. It's working so far. Maybe that would help you, too.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Whatever course you choose, I would recommend the Ninja Notes and Ninja Audio. Those are quite helpful.

    Yaeger user here!

If you like the old school studying style (lecture), Yaeger is a way to go.

However, Yaeger is good for FAR and BEC. REG is alright and AUD is kinda bad.

For ninja items, they are great. Get all of them.

Don't buy them right now, wait until the memorial day sale.

    FAR-82!
    REG-82 Again!
    BEC-78!
    AUD-84!

Done with the exam and LICENSED in VA as of 11/17/2015.

A little confused, since it sounds like you need motivation instead of study material advice.

In any case, I would buy a whole set, since the test material and such changes a bit yr to yr (especially from 2012-2014), but this assumes you plan on sitting soon.

The exam sections themselves expire in 18 months, so if you buy a set now, you would need to be done by late 2015. Once you commit to a time frame for taking the exams, the study materials are an afterthought.

Truthfully, I knew I could keep advancing for awhile without it, but I'm at a point now where I am stuck unless I pass it. I have my time frame laid out and it's reasonable and I'm on track. I just know that the Yaeger on it's own isn't going to be enough for me to get it the way I need to.

I will need a whole set, but had planned to just buy one update at a time with Yaeger since there's no price break on buying all at once.

I probably just need to not overthink it and either get the flashcards and wiley testbank from Yaeger or do them here. It probably won't make a huge difference either way as long as I use them.

Start with ninja MCQ ($47) if you want to get the combo later I will adjust the price to reflect the MCQ purchase.

Honestly I would get the Ninja MCQs and dive right in….but I'm not a lecture kind of girl. Sounds like you have enough books for reference.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel
