NINJA Question –
Question # 95 in REG seems to contradict itself. Here is the text of the question along with the answers:
“Professional membership in the AICPA is limited to:
A.
anyone who has passed the CPA exam.
B.
anyone who has a degree in accounting.
C.
individuals that failed the accounting exam, but intend to take it again.
D.
anyone who has passed the CPA exam, anyone who has a degree in accounting, recent graduates, faculty associates, and other specific AICPA types of membership.”
According to the answer key the answer is supposed to be A, but the explanation given is as follows: “Anyone who has passed the CPA exam may be an AICPA member, and other options do exist (student affiliates, recent graduates, and faculty associates). However, a degree in accounting is not sufficient for professional membership.”
The answer explanation seems to indicate answer D is correct but answer A is labeled as the answer. Answer D does not indicate “everyone” who has a degree in accounting, recent grads, faculty associates, and other specific AICPA types of membership will be able to obtain membership. It says “anyone” which means it is a true statement because AICPA membership is limited to only the types of people listed. It may be available to “anyone” falling into those categories but not “everyone” falling into those categories will be able to obtain membership (even everyone who has passed the CPA exam). I believe the best possible answer to this question is D based on the way the answers are worded but the answer key insists the answer is A.
Please let me know if I am somehow misunderstanding this question or what makes answer D false. I have missed this question every single time because the way I understand answer D to read makes answer D the correct answer.
Thanks!
