So I am debating on buying the Ninja software to help me with the CPA exam. I’ve tried Becker, but I haven’t really had time to study and I get bored with the hours of lectures.

I’m afraid with Ninja that there won’t be enough material covered. Has anyone used this? I tried looking up reviews but the only website it brought me to was another71.com,

    Thoughts???

If you are talking about the Ninja notes and flash cards, I highly recommend them. I have both and I use Becker and I really like them as a supportive instrument. It is a great way to bridge the gap between Becker and the exam. It groups things together better and gives you a nice finish on your understanding. I also feel it is more coversational. It isn't expensive and he updates the information for you for free after your first purchase. If you aren't sure, purchase it for one section and if you like it buy the rest. That is what I did. I bought BEC and loved it so I now have BEC, REG and FAR. I had passed Audit prior to buying the notes, that is the only reason I didn't buy for AUD. Have you taken or passed any sections? I know the lectures get boring but I think that if you have put your study schedule together well and it gives you the time to listen to the lectures then I would do it. But don't just listen. Take notes too. If you are in crunch time then I would advise you get the ninja notes, read them like crazy and answer MCQ through the Becker software.

I've used Becker for all of the sections so far (I passed AUD(87), BEC (84) and FAR(79)) and supplemented with the NINJA notes for BEC and FAR. I think the NINJA notes are a great addition, but I wouldn't use them instead of your Becker materials.

What I find works really well for me is to listen to the lectures in smaller sections rather than the entire chapter of lecture at one time. I watch the lecture then do the corresponding multiple choice questions (becker usually has each chapter broken into 5 or so smaller sections), this helps to break it up so that you don't get so bored while watching the lectures. The NINJA notes are a great supplement to the lectures…instead of going back and reviewing the entire book during the last couple of weeks before the exam you can just focus on the NINJA notes and multiple choice questions.

All that being said, I think the NINJA notes are great and I would definitely buy them again.

    @Jeff

I see the notecards are compatible with iphone. Do you see an Android app coming out in the near future?

I'm starting my FAR journey today.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for that useful info!

I haven't passed any sections yet. My problem was, my firm was pushing the CPA exam early in your career. But, I was trying to finish my MBA. So everytime I spoke with my counselor, the only thing he would ask me is about the exam. I got frustrated and decided to try to take it. So I got Becker, studied alittle, went and failed the exam. Finally a senior manager asked why I was taking the exam, and to focus on school….

Long story short, my software for Becker has long expired and I refuse to give them another $1,600 for something I already have.

Plus, my daily commute is atleast 2 hrs…so I figured the audio would help me learn the material…

I'm 2 for 2 with the Wiley Book and NINJA Notes Combo. I definitely recommend.

Thanks Jeff. Are the Assasin Notes different from the Ninja notes or are they one in the same?

And how would you recommend using them along with review material?

Would I want to work through my entire at home course work then review/rewrite the notes?

@NECain – how did you use the Ninja Notes to supplement with Wiley?

I will be using Yaeger (Wiley book and software) for FAR.

@MCLKT I read each chapter of the Wiley book first, without doing any MCQ's. The NINJA notes are broken out very similar to the Wiley chapters so I would read a section of the NINJA notes then go do that section of the MCQ's in the Wiley book. For all my wrong answers, and the ones I guessed right, I would go back to see if that material was covered in the NINJA notes. If it wasn't, I would add my own little notes. About 2 days before my test, I re-read all of the NINJA notes and my additional notes.

For Auditing, I also purchased the Wiley online test bank to supplement the book's MCQ's, but for FAR I just used the book and NINJA notes. I plan on trying this method again after tax season to get BEC finished up. By the way, to pass Regulation, I used my Wiley book exclusively, but the NINJA notes are a big help. They definitely cover the major and most important topics. While Jeff recommends rewriting the notes, I have yet to do that. Could definitely be beneficial for some people though. Good luck to you!

MCLKT – Good questions. The ASSASSIN notes are the NINJA notes. I just branded them with a cheesy name 🙂

You can use them in two ways:

    1. If you don't want to take notes with your course, you can print out the NINJA and if your instructor touches on something that I don't – write it in the margins.

    2. If you DO take notes, then use then as a review…load them on your smart phone, iPad, etc and take them with you wherever you go. If you have time 2 weeks out – re-write them. If not – just read as many times as possible.

Unlike some of the courses – I gave people who invest their money free updates until they pass.

@NECain – thanks for breaking down your methods!

I'm definitely going to get the Notes/App and use a combo to tackle this exam.
