    NINJA Question –

About a week ago I finished all the materials in Becker for BEC and bought NINJA MCQ as a review mechanism. I always do sets of 30 questions on ALL the topics mixed together. I rarely score higher than 70% on a set of these questions, mostly in the 60-66% range. However, my Trending Score has climbed up to 74% while my average remains at 67%. How is this possible? I seem to be doing worse and worse on the MCQs, yet my Trending score still rises. Can anyone explain this? Jeff?

I think it has something to do with answering new questions that haven't been answered before… not sure though.

@Biff did you use NINJA for BEC? How were your stats going into the exam?

Totally adding myself to this conversation but the day before the exam, I took 10 MCQ test and I think I got 6/10. I stopped MCQ altogether and just reviewed my Roger's book at night. Sometimes, you just need a small break. I did close to 2000+ by then and I'm pretty sure that I was beat. I answered some questions wrong even though I got it right before. My test was at 1 the next day, I just kept reviewing stuff I knew that I was weak at, which showed on my score report (IT and Financial Management). My trending was literally 69 coming into the exam.

You got this!!! Keep going at your weak areas.

I'm studying FAR with an overall avg. score of 79% and a trending score of 77.80% after 663 attempts.

My explanation is that I have a trending score of 60% in governmental accounting and an overall average of 69% in governmental; however, my average scores and trending scores are steady for other sections.

I believe that some sections of Ninja MCQ are pure specific-knowledge based, meaning that if you do not have specific information pertaining to that question, then you'll never be able to answer the question, i.e. when a question asks for the format of governmental-wide statements…there is no “logic” to the question or answer.

@CPA2BEE I pretty much only used Ninja MCQ for BEC. I began to watch the lectures on Wiley, but I felt the information in the lectures was just the absolute basic information, so I switched to pretty much only Ninja (I did do the MCQ in the Wiley books once or twice each). I think by the time of the exam I had around 4-5k questions in and was averaging low to mid 90%.

Even though I scored quite a bit lower than my ninja average, I felt that Ninja did an excellent job in preparing for the exam. There were quite a bit of terms on the actual exam that I had never seen before. But if Ninja never had them and Wiley never had them, I think it's safe to say that no review material was going to have these terms, so I was as prepared as I could have been.

I have used NINJA MCQs on every exam, but I noticed a pattern. I did not pass exams until I realized I needed to take a day or two off before the exam. I am older, so maybe my recovery time is longer than some, but cutting down on my study hours the week before, and taking the day before off has made a world of difference for me. I do always review my notes right before walking into Prometric- usually 1-2 hours.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna be grinding out MCQs until the 29th, hoping I come bump up my averages a little more for comfort. If anyone else has any input I'd love to hear it!
