OnmywaytoCPAParticipantExam Tip – Don't give up. Just keep pushing even if fail your first or second exam. I failed REG and BEC on the first time around, and then I gave up. I stepped away from the CPA Exam for two and a half years, only to realize, that I can't move forward with my career without it. If you fail, dust your self off, find out the areas you need to improve on, study, and stay positive. And also, don't let non-accounting people discourage you. Most people don't understand the struggle of passing the CPA Exam, and they will make comments like, “You haven't passed yet,” or “All you have to do answer a few questions,” or “Why is it taking you so long.” Just stay focus, and stay positive. You will be a CPA!

haseltonkMemberInterview tip: As a former interviewer: I would say the biggest thing you can do to stand out other than the usual dress nice, be confident, etc is come prepared with questions of your own. Actually do research into the company and industry you are looking to get hired into. Ask them about challenges they are experiencing, how they view the impact of X news story on their industry, ask them about career progression for the job you are interviewing for, or about what they have done in their career to get to where they are now.
Do not do the following (yes, people are actually did these):
-Say you would like to work at X when interviewing at Y
-Bring your phone into the interview, and for the love of god if you don't take that advice, don't ask the interviewer to hold on so you can take this call
-Wear jeans, this is a professional job

TX_AGGIEMemberExam tip:
– Stay positive throughout the exam even if the multiple choice questions aren't getting any harder. I started to panic during FAR when I kept getting “medium” questions and I still passed! I'm pretty sure we've all seen the “End Exam” button midway though and thought about clicking it, but stay positive and remain focused!

AnnaMemberExam study tip:
Avoid getting caught up in finishing the most number of MCQ to practice. Yes, this is extremely effective for preparing for the exam once you've learned the underlying concepts. However, if you don't fully know the concepts first, you will only learn parts tested in practice MCQs. Focus on knowing the concepts then mastering the trickniness of the questions, in that order. This will help tremendously with SIMs as well, given there is no preparation out there that is as challenging as the test topics.

mommyof3texansParticipantStudy tip: In Becker, when I miss a practice MCQ, I hit the lecture button for that question to associate why I got it wrong and how to get it right at that moment. I usually get it right the second and subsequent times.
Study tip2: Continue to refresh what you know periodically while focusing more heavily on your weaker areas.. You don't want to sacrifice what you are doing well on because you didn't review it the last several weeks before the exam.
Interview tip: Do a little background study on the company and industry/competition ahead and come prepared with at least a few intelligent questions.

wombataholicParticipantInterviewing tip: Come up with a script ahead of time for the questions you know you'll be asked, such as “Tell me about yourself” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” Your answers should include examples if possible, preferably recent ones.

MaverickCPA2015MemberExam/Study Tips: (1) on your MCQs understand the details of what makes the answer correct and the others incorrect. Sometimes whats within the details of those answers is what is going to eliminate the feeling of having two answers that seem correct on the actual exam. (2) Dont take short-cuts….the exams are very unpredictable and anything can be tested on it (3) whenever you feel discouraged or overwhelmed by your surroundings….come to this website and read through others experiences….you will quickly find that you are not alone and that others have jumped a lot more hurdles than you and were able to pass this exam….so never feel sorry for yourself or trying to find excuses. You will be successful if you keep plowing through and put your time in. Good luck to everyone!

yanks2MemberStudy tip: Give yourself time for breaks. Sometimes I'll try to spend an entire day studying and I find that after the 3rd hour my brain starts wondering elsewhere. Taking time off allows you to recharge and stay focused. Good luck everyone!

OimieMemberStudy tip: This may vary from person to person, but if you have something to motivate you to become a CPA, then use it! You will have those moments where your motivation starts to fade or you want to get lazy. When that happens it's good to have something to bring you back up. If it's a future career goal, then keep that in mind. If it's for your family, place your family photo right next to where you're studying. Or if it's a place you want to travel to after the exams are over, Google image it and leave the browser open so there will be a constant reminder right in front of you!

TheFutureCPAMemberStudy Tip: While stressing the importance of studying hard; don't forget to take good breaks too. Mind works best when fresh. Pouring over the textbooks/MC's for 10 hours straight is fantastic if you can keep focused, but I definitely can't. Take breaks. When you catch yourself losing focus, take a minute, a deep breath, rub your eyes, and get back into the zone.

ktyxMemberCareer/Interviewing Tip:
1) First thing is to know about the company background. So take a few minutes and look at their website for ideas of what they have been doing/ contributing to community and so for.
2) Always have some good questions to ask! I would suggest going online and searching what questions are good to ask nowadays. Business Insiders have articles that have been helpful to me. For instance: do not be afraid to ask what interviewers did not enjoy at their work place. I would say to ask questions you really want to know about but make it a little bit more personal so that it sounds that you are really interested in them.
3) Be always prepared to answer questions about your weakness and areas of improvement. Do not ever say that you do not have a weakness and you are a perfectionist! It is better to sound sincere and mention areas to improve that perhaps your co-workers or friends have suggested. For instance, English is not my first language and so it is a weakness. However, I have joined conversations clubs and/or watched more american shows to improve on it. My last tip would be to get a buddy to ask you questions – a mock interview so that you feel more relaxed when you are at the actual interview!
4) lastly dress appropriate for the occasion! you can't never go wrong with a nice clean suit and clean shoes! leave your phone in you car if possible or your purse! instead wear a simple watch ! Also, keep the shirt colors to pastel colors ! smile and walk confident ! more importantly be yourself 🙂

shanda98MemberExam Tip:
Arrive a few hours before your exam. Example: If your exam is at 5pm, leave out of your house by noon or 1pm.
While you are in the parking lot, use this time (approximately 3-4 hours) to:
Calm down – you arrived at the testing center early avoiding unforeseen delays (car accidents, car breaking down, traffic)
Review – review all of your notes, thereby making the information fresh in your head
Eat something light and drink some water – it's hard to concentrate when your stomach is growling and your parched
Rest your eyes and mind – set your alarm for a quick 30 min snooze, give yourself a quick break to replenish your focus
Quick review again of formulas – a quick imprint once again on the mind of formulas will help relieve doubt when testing
Walk in to the testing center 30 mins before scheduled – you are once again calm and not rushed.
IF POSSIBLE: You also have the opportunity to ask (before seats fill up), if you can seat facing a wall. I have found that when I face the inside of the room, I am easily distracted by people getting up, sitting down, and the moderators walking through and checking on things. However when I face the wall with my headphones on, not earplugs but headphones, I absolutely do not notice nor can sense any of that happening. I have complete focus. This worked out great for me once again when I tested in Jan when I took AUD. I was so focused by the time I reached Sims I had 2 hours left. 1 hour to complete the SIMS, and 15 mins of review, I left the 4 hour exam 45 mins early.
Hope this helps, good luck to you ALL!!
