    NINJA Question –

Just want to make a public service announcement.

If you are planning on taking REG using NINJA only and you DO NOT have an MST or average-heavy background in tax, you will not pass the new version of the exam.

NINJA REG is not nearly detailed enough to prepare you for this exam. The new SIMs will destroy you regardless how many NINJA MCQs and practice exams you take.

There may be a few exceptions to this who can pull out a pass (likely with a lot of luck on their side) however based on the conversations on this forum alone you can get a sense of the frustration.

Just retook REG using NINJA only and Becker free trial. I have put in at least 300+ hours and have passed both AUD and BEC within two months of each other (NINJA only), yet REG has been the challenge.

If I did pass this time around, it’s mostly thanks to the detailed and to-the-point content I studied in Becker’s free trial to get me over the hump.

Not saying NINJA is a bad course, but it is definitely outdated for the current exam. Do yourself a favor and buy Becker for REG, you won’t regret it.

It’s comparable to the REG exam wanting you to be able to build a house, and NINJA only teaches you how to draw one.

I used exclusively Becker for my first take at REG. I don't necessarily attribute my 59 to a deficit in Becker, since I had really bad burnout when I took it and was nervous to receive my FAR score. But at the time, Becker wasn't cutting it for me. I actually felt like I didn't get good explanations in the questions. I bought NINJA for this retake, I have not taken the exam yet. But the new taste of NINJA questions helped to piece together the learning for me. And now that I have both software, Becker questions make more sense now. I think Becker was a good foundation, and NINJA is tying some things together. Everyone learns a little bit differently though.

@Vandammage – True, I don't think it's a NINJA only thing, I think ALL the review courses are probably a bit outdated and still working on catching up to the new formats. I'm not sure what goes on behind the scenes or what it takes to incorporate DRS practice SIMs into a review course, but I do know that the bit of Becker I did get to sample is very close to what you see on the actual exam. And from what I've seen Becker does an excellent job at taking extremely comprehensive material and converting it into a very cut and dry to-the-point review.

@Jeff – It's just my experience. I don't mean to come across as demeaning or bitter toward NINJA, but considering I've passed two sections within two months on the old format and took FAR and felt okay with it using NINJA only, REG is the only section I've experienced this. Also, I admit I don't take the prescribed methodology for studying for these exams so my trending scores won't properly reflect my ability, however I have put in less time on previous sections using the same methodology and passed. REG has been the only anomaly.

@Wanna – LOL, I am just honest and straightforward. Sometimes that comes off as rude or confrontational, especially on the internet, but I just wanted to share my honest experience because I think it will help others one way or another.

@Shawn – The Becker REG free trial only gives you access to individual taxation. But that is probably one of the most important sections you MUST know on the new format…considering it makes for great testable material especially for SIMs. No doubt, if I have to retake REG yet again, if I bought full access to Becker REG, and had even just one more week to study, I would be highly confident that I'd pass REG very easily. It's just unfortunately true though that NINJA (and likely many of the other review courses) just don't cut it on this new format.

I had just over 2:15 left after finishing the MCQ (took longer than expected) and had about 1:30 left when I took the official break after the first SIM testlet. I was able to fill in all the SIMs and even used the AL quite a bit to look up as much information as possible, though I wish I had more time on the last testlet. Altogether I had about 3 complex DRS, 1 pretty easy research SIM, 2 other SIMs from out of left field, and 2 that were “doable” but I probably screwed up anyway 😛

I think pacing yourself @ 0:45 minutes per testlet is a good benchmark. Also I don't want to get into disclosure territory, but all my SIMs were calculations. MCQ in my opinion is luck of the draw and there's really no way of preparing for them other than STUDY EVERYTHING.

@Curlygirl – Interesting. When I signed up for the Becker free trial, it was like a breath of fresh air! I took the exam before and when I saw the detailed nature of the material, the videos, and explanations, it was EXACTLY what I have been searching for to help for this exam. I made several posts in the past about my experience the first time taking REG and asked if anyone could recommend a course that would address the concerns I had (I was mainly looking for a supplemental course to help practice the SIMs). No one even recommended Becker, but when I finally decided to check out the free trial it gives you access to only the individual taxation but it hit the nail on the head and was exactly what I was looking for.

Anywho, good luck everyone. I will follow up on the 19th with an update. If I failed or barely passed, then there's really not much more I can do with NINJA. If I scored in the 80s though then NINJA is basically like bare minimum for this section. I'm sure the course will be updated eventually, but I hope my experience is a word of caution for anyone who isn't very confident in their abilities for this section…Becker was a breath of fresh air for me and very closely reflected the actual content on the exam.

brick being brick. what a silly set of posts, making such blanket statements because of a bad exam experience. Your review was objective eh? Good one.

Its pretty funny the amount of posts you've been making around here recently endorsing becker. my personal favorite was the thread you created a few days ago with the subject along the lines of “anyone taking REG read this, secret to success” or some poppycock nonsense like that. Brick's brilliant success advice? Download the free trial of becker for REG. CLASSIC.

Maybe you just didn't use the ninja material the right way? Maybe your study habits were/are insufficient? Maybe you didn't retain the REG content and concepts like you should have? Maybe you were a little extra moody and know-it-all like that day and nothing sunk in that day?

keep fighting the fight buddy, the struggle is real.

Oh, and I find it interesting that Becker is apparently the only updated review course. I know they charge the most and are the most well-established…I'm guessing they are in cahoots one way or another with the AICPA since they are the only one with such an up-to-date review course?

PS @Tommy – go away. You never have anything to contribute other than to criticize my posts. Everything, literally everything, in your post has already been addressed. If you don't like it you are free to continue scrolling and keep your useless/toxic critique to yourself.

All the same, please email me. Today.

It's only fair that I get to at least verify that you're actually a NINJA customer.

I am a NINJA customer I bought the ten point combo last year, but I prefer to keep my anonymity. As mentioned, NINJA has been EXCELLENT for all other sections (AUD, BEC, and FAR). It just comes up short on REG in my opinion.

You are welcome to delete the thread though because I don't mean to stir the pot here. Many people have been frustrated with this and I just wanted to share my experience as well.

Anywho, that's all I have to add here. Good luck to everyone 🙂

Don't know why anyone here is attacking anyone else for their point of view in regards to cpa study software. I've used Roger, Becker, and Ninja and have my own opinion. But Wannafree is on the money and I'll keep it to myself.

Becker is overrated. Don’t listen to all of the hype. Becker covers wayyyyyyyy too much material that is never, ever tested. Becker also makes certain topics wayyyyyy too complicated and they need to dumb down their material. Why Becker focuses on AMT like your life depended on it is beyond me.

    Goodluck.

Alright – well, this has been a fun thread.

People wanting some drama to spice up their day got it (enjoyed some of the memes, btw).

If the OP won't verify that they are an actual customer – then I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that.

re: Is NINJA for REG Sufficient?

The only thing I can go off of is what people report – and all of the REG scores from Q2/Q3 under the new exam came back with passing scores.

The average actual score reported was in the 80s.

I'm sure people failed – they just didn't post it – it's the best I can do: https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/ninja-mcq-trending-vs-actual-scores/

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/1/d/1qxfKqNvZWrKtQ-VfVsy49otykmubeSHOeX4lJlGxVtc/edit?usp=sharing

Coincidentally, I don't see the OP on the list for their other exams – despite 840 other posts on the forum.

Sorry to disappoint the conspiracy theorists hoping I'll delete the thread.

    jeff
