NINJA Question –

A post from @iggy1985 suggests doing an “initial assessment” of 10 MCQs per section to help determine your weak (< 70%) areas. Then do MCQ in increments of 20 to get your score in each weak section to 70%. Then work towards getting at least 80% in every area

Is this ingenuous compared to going down the MCQ sections 1 by 1 doing new questions until all have been answered once?

It seems like an effective way to study and supplement in between questions with learning the material through NINJA notes, reading the book or NINJA PLUS videos.

I actually did something similar when I was studying for BEC. That spreadsheet looks better than mine, however. I think I just copied the info from NINJA and pasted it in Excel. That's basically what I did though. After working some problems my problem sections began to stand out, so I focused on those areas 20 problems at a time until the averages for the weak areas came up. I did find it useful. Something similar may already be built into NINJA and other test banks, but I liked only focusing on one specific section I was struggling with at a time. That way if I answered one question incorrectly and was able to read the explanation, I could take that info almost immediately into a similar question rather than having to wait until the computer randomly threw one my way.

I've heard similar on one of the pod cast, someone was 7 days out from their test day and they wanted a quick way to get it done. The recommendation was to do sets of 20 mcq score, then from weakest topic to strongest topic work sets of 20 til scoring 70 – 75%. I can't keep up with the spreadsheets and stuff, but I like the topic weakest to strongest until 70-75%. How do you do this without memorizing?

You read through he answers carefully and understand the reason you get the questions right/wrong.

I think the percentage depends on which prep software your using. With Gleim I get as close to 75% as possible, but with Ninja I get up to 85%.

If you fail a few time and start to memorize everything, buy a separate multiple choice bank.

@cpamatt Can I ask how you increased your FAR exam score on your retake? I am retaking in May and any advice would help. I have NINJA MCQ, Becker flashcards, and I am using Wiley free trial version. I am going through the important financial statement accounts and writing out all JE's (this should help tremendously in the SIMS). I am hitting areas I felt very weak in going into my first time taking this exam.

I think it's an effective method. However, I think you could be wasting some time by over testing. Imo, you should prioritize topics based on weight on the exam and by weakness in topic Have you considered using Ninja MCQ. The work that you are doing to keep track of scores is done for you.
