NINJA Question –
Hi All,
– I’m a 10 year experienced cost accountant/plant controller. I recently took advantage of my company folding up to knock out my CPA, full-time, starting in Sept. I recently took my FAR exam and wow, I rescheduled that 7 times because I thought Roger‘s 3 month CPA schedule would be sufficient for me. I was incredibly wrong. I literally spent between 10-16 hours a day studying for 6 weeks, but I feel stupid that I can’t retain this information.
– My method of studying was using Roger‘s smart path – watch the videos, take notes in the book, write my own notes and then hit each chapter’s MCQ requirement to Roger‘s recommended %. I was very proud when I got to Government Acct and Non profit and killed it. I’ve never taken a class in either, so it was a personal high to feel like I really knew it; however, the time I spent on learning it knocked me off of my schedule. As for the exam, i feel like I’ll probably getting a failing grade — my downfall was I wasn’t reviewing previous topics (I’m not the best at bonds or leases) and I ran out of time on testlets 2 and 5 (couldn’t finish my last, long-form TBS)
– So last week, I started hitting REG hard. Per Rogers, today, I’m supposed to be on Chapter 7 or 8 by now. I’m just now starting the MCQs for Chapter two (C-Corps) after spending days to really iron out Individual and C-Corps. Roger‘s schedule is to be done in 19 days, but I’ll be honest, I’m a very slow reader (I have an issue following Roger‘s writing) and a lot of this information is just overwhelming and I sometimes think that my education background (I took all my post-grad accounting reqs at a junior college) has hindered me because it was watered down and now I need to know this stuff for the exam.
– I recently bought into Ninja after reading reviews for the MCQ on REG, but I feel like I’m way too slow getting these concepts and not hitting enough MCQs in the time needed. Any recommendations on how to do Roger + Ninja for REG (and really, all of the sections)?
– These guides seem to be odds with one another:
1) Ninja just says learn material and take notes first. Rewrite to iron it out and then take MCQs non-stop in any order.
2) Roger seems segmented by subject and I never feel comfortable coming back to old chapters/aggregate chapter quizzing (because I’ve forgotten it). I spend a lot of time rewinding his videos to understand what he’s writing (difficult to read at times).
