    NINJA Question –

We all know FAR has the biggest scope of them all. So when I saw the number of questions it’s 1,921 for REG and 1,696 for FAR. How is this possible when most review courses don’t view them that way?

    FAR 57 (11/2014), 64 (1/2015), 79 (7/2015)
    AUD 68 (2/2015), 79 (11/2015)
    REG 79 (1/2016)
    BEC 81 (4/2016)

There's two ways I see it:

    1. Tax usually assumes you know the GAAP method of accounting already and then they're telling you how Tax is different.. Meaning it's difficult to understand what the difference are if you don't already know the original item under GAAP.

    2. Tax has so many exceptions to the exceptions that you'll have 5 different ways to deduct or accrue something and then you have to learn the special circumstances where they don't apply at all.

    REG - 74, 92
    BEC - 83
    FAR - 73, 86

I don't remember the actual numbers, but I think just under half of REG MCQs are BLaw.

I also think with FAR a lot of the topics (aside from Gov't/NFP, sort of) interconnect with other topics. For example, knowing inventory valuation methods inside and out will help you understand the balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows.

With REG Blaw and Tax are pretty much separate topics. It's not as fragmented as BEC, but there's definitely a divide between the two topics.
