If you're a recent graduate, I say yes. If it's been a while since you've been in school, then I suggest you will need a full review course. Also, make a plan and stick to it. My FAR studying dragged out unnecessarily long due to post grad/job search/life issues, which is besides the fact that I didn't get my NTS until February 11 (and March is a blackout month).

Most of the my friends in my MAcc program studied for far within the range of 4-5 weeks, they passed. I am doing a 4 week approach.

In your situation, I would test to see whether or not you are familiar with at least some of this material. Most likely you wont be being that you haven't seen this stuff in years. 50 days might be an “ok” time frame for you if you are dedicated (assuming you have a lot of catching up to do).

Whats really important right now is that you make an extremely detailed schedule of “study time” and stick to it. Gauge yourself over a week or so to get a feel of where you are at.

    Good Luck!

I have a valid NTS for FAR which is expiring on April 14th, but I'm not ready to take the exam due to lack of preparedness. I have also re-applied to CA state board but not yet made my exam selections. I wanted to know if I can re-select FAR with the new application in this testing window (April-May) if I don't appear for the exam, that way I get a new NTS which will be valid for another 9 months?

Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
