    NINJA Question –

Which route should I take? This will be my 2nd time taking FAR. I used Roger the first time and even though he is a great teacher, it was taking me ages to watch his videos and have the information stick.

Is the FAR Ninja book enough? Is the book paired with Ninja MCQ enough?

I did Roger lectures + Ninja notes + Ninja MCQs for FAR and felt solid…I guess the true test will be at 1am when I get my score.

This was also my second attempt at FAR. The first time I had too much going outside of studying and fell too far behind to get through everything. I tried cramming with his MCQs and didn't feel like they helped all that much. So when I started studying for my 2nd try I went back to the beginning and started fresh. I like the way he explains things and helped fill in the pieces where the Ninja notes got a little hazy. I didn't watch any of his videos going over class problems or utilize his MCQ test bank the 2nd go through. I don't know why but I felt like the Ninja MCQ were much more realistic to what you actually see on the exam.

Here's the thing, Roger has a new system that he recently implemented regarding his MCQs. People tend to talk down about his MCQs because his old system really lacked. His new IPQ (Interactive Practice Questions) are quite comparable to Ninja IMO.

@jasoncancio Rog's update to his interactive MCQ came out towards the end of my studying for FAR. At that point I was already in a routine with Ninja and opted to stay my course, rather than trying new things at the very end.

With that said, I am not done with my CPA adventures. Even if I pass this round, I still have AUD and REG to go. So I will make sure I try out his new system for whatever section I'm studying next.

@allaboard Thanks for the response but not exactly what I was talking about. Wasn't talking about combining Roger with NINJA. Attempted to do that the first time around with FAR and was a massive mistake and one of the reasons why I failed. When you are looking for structure, crossing the two will cause problems. So, I was asking about just Roger products (Video Lectures + MCQ) or just NINJA products (Books + MCQ). One or the other, but not both.

@jasoncancio Ya, I noticed the change with Roger, but to be honest, the only change I have noticed was the interface of the multiple choice questions. The questions and sims are the same exact thing and both the content and the user experience of the questions severely lacks compared to NINJA MCQs.

@CR7MU, I have both Roger and the ten point combo right now. I plan on going through all of Roger's course as planned, then hammer out as many MCQs possible come exam day.

It's a bummer that's your experience with Roger's IPQs. Honestly, I've been seeing questions overlap as I take quick peeks into the Ninja MCQs.

Gotcha. I read your original post as you only utilized Roger material the first time through and didn't realize you already tried a hybrid version. Sorry I can't help.

@jasoncancio It is not so much bout the actual question. It is more so about the interface and format of everything. NINJA has it better. But that is not the point of this thread. I don't doubt whether Roger MCQ's are enough or not, I am just trying to figure out if I should do Roger CPA 100% with no other material, or NINJA 10 point (Book and MCQ) with no other material. I attempted to supplement Roger with NINJA MCQ and it was a massive fail. I need structure and since the two products don't correlate, I spent more time confused trying to intertwine the two. It really prevented any structure I was hoping to rely on.

So, is the NINJA Book enough? Or should I stick with Roger videos and use his MCQ?

CR7MU,first of all, I don't think he will ever go back to Manchester United. You will see him playing for NYC very soon. Back to the topic at hand, I see what you mean by structure. I was having the same issue with BEC and ninja. I noticed that I was all over the place simply because Ninja questions covered material that I could not find either with Roger or Becker, so I couldn't score above a 75. If you need structure, you should go with Roger and supplement it with Wiley test bank since they pretty much test what Roger has covered. I don't know if the ninja book is too dry for FAR, you might need more explanations than the book provides.

    I'll hijack this thread:

NINJA Book + MCQ is enough to pass.

monkernc used only NINJA Book + MCQ and scored a 93 on AUD. Those results probably aren't typical, but it's very doable.

If you hate reading / skimming a book – you won't like that method. If you don't mind it … it might be a great option.

If you want videos – then I would watch all of his videos and take notes … and then switch to NINJA MCQ completely. It has more questions and features, including adaptive learning.

@martin NO! He will be coming to the not yet formed LA FC. But glad you understand what CR7MU means. Really got led on this pas summer about him returning. But, ya, it is highly unlikely now.

@Jeff Please do hijack this. I appreciate hearing from the man himself. Ya, the Roger MCQ experience is just too plain. I really love the adaptive learning you have implemented. The issue I ran into the first time around was correlating Roger lectures with NINJA MCQ. I wanted to do MCQ right after covering that material rather than doing the entire Roger system and then jumping to NINJA MCQ. I feel like I'd forget everything I learned in the beginning of the Roger system since I haven't touched it in a while.

And tbh, everyone says to find their way to study. To find the method that they find most effective. To be honest, I am 30, and I have never found that effective through all my years of schooling, and I am finding the same results since beginning this CPA journey. I do like how Roger explains everything. But I feel he doesn't cover everything in his video. His just talks about certain topics and skips over others. So, he does very well in explaining tough material but I felt like I was missing the fine details that showed up on the exam. I also doze off watching the videos. Not because they are boring but because I sit in front of a computer screen all day at work, then when I come home to study, my eyes have had enough. Also my first time around with FAR, it felt like I was too focused on the schedule and to focused on completing the video as quick as a can rather than absorbing the material and having a good grasp on it.

But, then again, I am a very slow reader. Your FAR book has about 700 pages right? That would take me 2 months just to finish the book lol probably an exaggeration but I really don't know how quick I can complete that and still have plenty of time to go through all of the NINJA MCQs twice.

It has 644 pages (some of them are title pages)…You could read:

    32 pages / day
    5 days a week
for 4 weeks and be done…spend 2 weeks on MCQ…1 week on note re-write…1 week on a review.

Thanks Jeff! All that seems reasonable even though I might have to bump everything to 6/7 days a week. I am leaving the country second week of January, so I schedule my exam on the 10th of January. I really don't want to reschedule. I have been dragging this on too long. My initial FAR exam was rescheduled 3 times before actually sitting and my AUD exam was rescheduled 2 times before actually sitting. Kept losing confidence and then rescheduling. I find out tomorrow what I got on AUD. I took AUD about 2 weeks ago and then went MIA with the studying of FAR with the Holidays and me just wanting a break.

But one good thing is that I can, most of the time, sneak in studying at work. I have my own office and sit at the desk all day. So, unless a project comes up, I can slack and study at work. Just haven't been taking advantage of that lately.
