    NINJA Question –

    Hey fellow and feline NINJAs:

I’m eight weeks out from FAR and trending 50s in NINJA MCQ. Not in adaptive learning phase yet. Someone please tell me this is [relatively] normal. So far, I’m aiming for:

    Workday MCQs: 30-50/day

    Weekend MCQs: 90-100/day

What were you guys trending after passing the initial phase of NINJA MCQ and heading into the adaptive phase? Aiming for a benchmark before/after adaptive learning phase will help me gauge my progress.

My anxiety is clearly seeking some serious affirmation.

    :scared:

    Onward we go!

For those retaking FAR, what is your study approach? I made a 74 in April, moved on to BEC, now I'm studying FAR again and plan to retake it on Aug. 31. I listened to all the lectures for chapters 1-7 and reworked the homework. I still have 3 chapters left plus reviewing before exam so I'm listening to Chapter 8 lectures on my way to work to save time. Any suggestions for passing FAR on 3rd attempt? Is 6 weeks long enough to study for a retake?

Ark! Congrats on BEC!! I'm still waiting for my score release. For my 5th FAR attempt, I am doing MCQ till I pass out from the sheer fun of it all. I'm keeping a spreadsheet of “RULES”, so that I don't think, yeah, I know that, but still can't explain it.

    We WILL get this!

    AUD 88 (expired), 80 retake
    FAR 64,69,67,73,67,73,73,73, August 3
    REG 75 (expired) September 7
    BEC 72, 77

    HELPPERRSS please

On January 2 of the current year, Lem Corp. bought machinery under a contract that required a down payment of $10,000, plus 24 monthly payments of $5,000 each, for total cash payments of $130,000. The cash equivalent price of the machinery was $110,000. The machinery has an estimated useful life of ten years and estimated salvage value of $5,000. Lem uses straight-line depreciation. In its year-end income statement, what amount should Lem report as depreciation for this machinery?

    a.

    $11,000

    b.

    $10,500

    c.

    $12,500

    d.

    $13,000

    Explanation

Choice “b” is correct. On the transaction date, the machinery would be recorded at its fair market value ($110,000), cash would be credited ($10,000), and notes/payable would be credited for $100,000. The cash payments include interest as well as principal. Straight-line depreciation = ($110,000 cost – $5,000 salvage value) / 10 years life = $10,500.

Can anyone explain to me why we are using the cash equivalent. It still doesn't make sense to me. I understand the math. Straight – Line is pretty upfront and easy 🙂

all the help in the world would be great

    thanks guys

@CPA50 Thank you! I was so relieved to get a passing score for BEC; I just knew I had failed! I had someone at work who recently attained their CPA tell me that I should wait until October to take FAR and not “cram”. But my Audit score expires October 18th so I feel that I at least have to try to pass FAR this month. I'm taking FAR on the 31st and I'm going give it my best shot!

Good Luck to you on your exams! I will be looking for your post of your BEC score………..I'm sure you passed!

@FLACPA: Honestly, I didn't hit the review stage with AUD or FAR. With FAR I also didn't do as much studying as I should have, so I wouldn't have been surprised if I'd failed. I also never took a practice text. I try to look at the MCQ's as a learning tool rather than just an indicator and when I do more than 5 – 10 Q's at a time I'm not learning the material the way I should and I feel like I'm wasting my time. I mean, the test is there to test me, why do it beforehand? MCQ's are probably your best bet, just make sure you spend time on the areas you're more familiar with too so that you don't forget them in the process of trying to work on your weaker areas. If you keep pounding them out and spend time studying them you're trending score will probably continue to increase over the next few days so that you feel more comfortable.

Something I learned from these forums that's been helping me stay motivated and feel like I'm making progress is that you on the detailed results, you can copy everything and paste it into excel then it's easy to see how you're doing compared to prior sessions. I'm saving a workbook with a tab for each time I've done the comparison, so I can just copy the prior results over then paste my current results into it. I often feel like I'm not making any progress because I'm scoring a lot of 40's and 60's on my individual sessions, so seeing the detailed results comparison shows me that I am improving and that my session scores are just still low because NINJA keeps adapting to work on my weak areas.

Thanks @silvercamero77. That makes me feel better.

Just took the practice exam, low score but I mainly wanted to get a feel for the time management and duration. I'm just going to focus on MCQ's and I'll start keeping an excel doc of my reports so I can really see how much I am improving.

    Thanks for the tips!
