hey everyone – I should finish all of the FAR NINJA MCQ tonight and be able to start the review phase tomorrow, giving me 9 full days of 100% review until my exam.

I’m thinking I will do the following:

1) Non stop 30 question sets, alternating between the “adaptive-learning” sessions and trouble questions/missed last time(covering all topics)
2) Since there are 76 sims, I plan on doing roughly 9 each day in between question sets
3) Read Ninja notes for about 30 mins-1 hour a day

Is that a solid plan of attack to get a good holistic review and address problem areas at the same time? Anything else I should be doing or that worked for you all in passing FAR?

This exam is my gateway to freedom but I failed with a 72 the first time. I really want to leave nothing on the table this time around…

Sounds like a solid plan. Make sure to take detailed notes on any questions/sims you get wrong.

On an unrelated note, are you from Louisiana?

@wombataholic Yeah, I was going to include that I do that too but was trying to keep it as concise as possible lol. I'm actually taking notes on stuff I get right too because I want to make sure I know the information well. I will say, it's adding significant time in between the 30 question sets, which kind of sucks. It's looking like I might get through 120 questions and 8 sims today. I was really hoping for more. I just can't seem to be one of those people that does 300 MCQ in a day AND take detailed notes. 🙁 Do you think the slow and steady approach is more beneficial than hammering through countless MCQs and possibly memorizing too much?

One other question I had for you or for whoever: When I finished all the NINJA MCQ questions and got to the review phase, I had a 75% Average. Should that be higher with 8.5 days til the exam? I figure I have several days to bring that up, but I'm just a bit worried to fall on my face again.

And yes, I was born and raised in Louisiana! I moved to Texas after undergrad in June of 2009 though and am adhering to the Texas License Requirements.

I think at this stage of the game you should worry more about any that you either get wrong or guess on. If you feel like you're memorizing calculation questions, don't look at the answers. Do the math, get the right answer, then look at the choices.

Your trending score is fine with 8 days to go. It will start climbing as you hammer your problem questions and missed last time questions.

Yeah I have already started to see a certain level of memorization and yesterday was day 1 of 9 of review lol. That's also why I'm taking more in depth notes that are provided with the solutions. And I am definitely trying not to look at the answers before doing a calculation problem but even with some of the calculation problems I start reading and I'm like “yep I know what to do” 🙁 I have access to CPAExcel's test bank as well, so I have a feeling I might start working on questions from that test bank at some point. Just don't like not having all of my results in one place like I can have in the Ninja Progress Report.

That 75% average (went up to 76% after yesterday) is actually my overall overage since I started working in NINJA MCQ. My trending score was at 100% b/c I answered all of the questions in the test bank but I know that's way inflated! As I do question sets it's starting to normalize and go down a little bit.

You're about where I was going into all 4 sections. 100% trending and somewhere between 77 and 85% average. Keep at it, you're almost there.

Well that makes me feel a bit better, but for sure will keep working at it nonstop til next Thursday! Praying it's over after that!! At least my CPA exams anyway. I get to take two investment exams after that this joyful ride is over…womp womp.

@GeauxAwayCPA Have you taken your exam yet and if so how do you think you did? I don't know if you remember or not, but we discussed FAR in a differed thread a couple weeks back. I'm scheduled for FAR on November 14th and will hit the review stage Nov 1st (starting NFP info tomorrow, then two days later begin Govt).

Did your plan of action go well? Do you have any suggestions or tips on what I should do? I have Wiley CPAexcel so I will be using the test bank but I also wonder if I should get Ninja MCQ to use for 2 weeks?

Any tips are greatly appreciated! I hope you did well!

@scared_cpa Thanks for the well wishes! I hope I passed as well, but it's really difficult to say how it went for me. November 4th can't be here soon enough 🙁 I definitely put in the work and the time and went in feeling much more confident than last time. I started off feeling like I understood what they were asking me, but the 2nd and 3rd testlets definitely got harder. So hard that I ran out of time to logically answer about 7 questions in the 3rd testlet because the questions were paragraphs long with so many numbers thrown into the question. What's frustrating is that they weren't questions that I didn't know how to do. But they were all paragraphs long and they all had SO MANY NUMBERS/Charts thrown into it, and they all had some little twist that didn't allow me to get the right answer after an initial read over and calculation. So time was the issue there….I was already only leaving an hour for SIMS, so I had to just guess on those 7 questions I didn't know to give myself a fighting chance at the SIMs.

The best advice I can give you is advice you've probably advice you've already heard time and time again on here – IFRS, Govt, NFP, and make sure to do some SIMs leading up to the exam(especially Journal Entry sims).

I only used NINJA questions this time around….I thought about mixing in some CPAExcel Test Bank questions but ultimately did not so that I could keep my stats and progress all in one place. I don't think mixing in additional questions would be a bad idea though. No matter what you decide, the reality is that the questions on the exam will be VERY different, no matter how confident you feel!

Great to hear back! It sounds like you were well prepared, I bet you passed! I truly appreciate your tips and study habits. That's essentially what I plan on doing when I begin reviewing. I've got 11 review days so I hope that is enough!

What would you say are the most important points to remember with Gov't? NFP is quite a small section so it isn't too difficult but there's quite a lot of detail with Gov't and I was wondering if all the details are important or if just the general idea of all of it is sufficient?

I'm not asking you to divulge information from your exams, just what the most important topics are in general.
