NINJA Question –

Did you guys find any difference between college textbooks vs CPA programs textbooks in terms of material quality, how easy is to understand the concepts, etc? I had to put my study on hold last year due to family issues and now I’m ready to start again. Roger’s FAR section is mind boggling. Wiley college textbook for intermediate 1 and 2 were easy to read, and understand the materials. His BEC and REG weren’t bad. Those who tried different cpa study programs, can you share your experiences?

Also has anyone tried ninja subscription program? I loved ninja’s notes and multiple choice sections. I’m thinking to buy either Gliem or Ninja program.

I supplemented some here and there with a college textbook for FAR. I think it's fine to to do that with some areas that you don't understand from the lectures in Roger. I would stick with Roger (or whatever study program) and not use the textbook as your main source, however. If some of the stuff in Roger is difficult to understand, it's just because the content is hard to understand. I used Roger for FAR the first go 'round and thought his Governmental lectures were terrible, but he was pretty on point with everything else.

I use Becker now and think it is great, but there are just as many people on here that would say the exact opposite and that Roger is fantastic. The truth is, it doesn't matter that much which program you use, just that you get one and use it frequently. The most important thing by far IMO is using the test bank every day, whether it be Ninja, Wiley, or whoever. I've heard good things about gleim having a much larger test bank as well as harder questions.

Thanks for reply Jimmy. In FAR, content seems over the top. Its like this is not what I learned in college. I don't know what but its overwhelming. Never had internationl and government accounting classes in school and it seems Rogers put advance accounting chapters in the beginning than go to asset sections followed by liabilities and equity chapters. I might order some used books from different programs to see how it structured and how well its written. His other books seems alright but this one takes the cake. No happy with it.

No problem. Also keep in mind there have been major changes in a couple of areas very recently, namely revenue recognition and leases. If you buy older textbooks, they won't have the most up-to-date information that will be tested in those areas.

Re: governmental, you really cannot beat the Bisk CPA videos that come with the Ninja subscription.
