NINJA Question –

I asked something similar in a previous thread but no one replied, so trying again. I really need to know this in order to understand my study materials and maintain an appropriate strategy for my studies.

I just did 3×30 sessions of “new questions” (i.e. NOT questions through the “adaptive learning sessions”) in NINJA, and on one of these apparently entered into “adaptive learning” since the dashboard now shows a full bar on “assessment” phase. I scored above 80% on my first 2 sessions, but on the 3rd I got a 63% (!!!!). I am now wondering what is going on here – are “new questions” not completely random? Was my 3rd session in “adaptive learning”, therefore weighted with my difficult topics and as a result perceived by me as much tougher?

If “new questions” are in fact random and not part of the adaptive learning in NINJA, then I find it a bit odd how I can go from above 80% on one session, to 63% on the other. It freaks me out a little.

Please can someone bring light to all this.

I don't know the specifics on the Ninja MCQ, but adaptive learning basically looks for your weak areas and then gives you questions from those so you can bring them up to not be weak anymore. But hopefully someone can chime in with a more specific answer.

I'm currently using becker and just failed aud with a 72. Do you think the ninja mcq would be a good purchase or should I just continue using becker? I'm currently studying for far now how do the mcq questions compare to those in ninja. Because my score with becker is horrible.

Kimboroni: Yes, that is all clear to me, what is not clear is whether or not the “new questions” function is weighted or not i.e. if it includes the “adaptive learning” formula or not.

Anyone?

Kimboroni: For FAR, I ditched Becker after F3. Not sure if that was a good decision but will know in a week 🙂 I have been doing only NINJAs, I like the concept and I did not like the long nasty Becker questions.

are you using ninja mcq only or did you purchase the 10 point combo?

also, for the mcq can you download it multiple times? I would like to download it on my laptop and ipad.

I'm thinking of doing the 1 year access for all 4 parts so can you work more than one part at a time? (far & bec at the same time)?

Selecting to see only new questions limits the available pool to just unseen questions. The category weighting of the exam still applies to how many questions get selected per category. Also, the results of these sessions do apply towards the assessment phase since that data can be used in the calculations of category performance.

The questions are selected randomly from the pool. However, doing new question sessions may exhaust or limit some of the categories (if you see all of category X, you would not have any left in new status). If the exhausted category (categories) were easy for you then you would be left with harder questions.

Also, just selecting random questions might cause a few sessions to be herder/easier than the average.

Since it is random, the bell curve applies.

Sure thing – it's online access, so there are no download restrictions.

Yes, you can do multiple sections at once, but I don't really know why you would want to 🙂

Just as a follow up, I still believe “new questions” are weighted somehow. I have been on this strategy with my NINJA MCQs for a few days now and I don't recommend it. It will not give you representative results from your sessions.

I just did one session with 93%. Really happy about that I continued with the next session and did 20 straight questions with 100% right, then I hit the wall of hell and fail on 10 questions in a row!! So obviously it is not just giving you random questions, but add in some kind of weight, whatever that now is.

No, stay away from “new questions”. It will give you some sessions really tough and others really easy. I saw exactly the same pattern today, as yesterday – I did first one session scoring 93%, then one of 90%, fooling me to believe I was doing good. Then in the third session, I was down at 63%. It's better to use the “adaptive learning” generator of MCQs, since that will at least give you a relatively constant level in terms of difficulty and hence give you a better indication in your scores. Scoring 93% doesn't tell me anything in the “new questions” strategy, since it was most likely due to a really, really simple set of questions.
