3 weeks until FAR…too late for Ninja MCQ?

    I’ve been working since mid-August on FAR and will be done with the material at the beginning of November. I take my exam November 14th and plan on using WTB until then, so about 2 weeks. Is that too short of a time to bring NINJA MCQ in, as well?

    I’ve heard it takes a while to get to the adaptive stage, which is the most important aspect in my opinion…so I don’t know if it would be a waste of time to only use it for 2 weeks when I’ve been using CPAexcel since August and will be reviewing with WTB?

    All comments are appreciated!

    Same situation here, but I am taking Reg on Nov 11. I'm pretty sure you can make it through and hit review phase within that timespan. My only dilemma is bringing on a new testbank vs. mastering the one that you are currently using. Any insight will be appreciated.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

    I've considered supplementing Becker with Ninja MCQ's for each test I've taken, but so far I haven't done it, because I always end up with only a week or two left for review just like you're talking about. I think when you only have a couple weeks it's better to master the test bank you're already familiar with.

    Thanks, guys! I haven't actually begun the test bank yet. I'm currently working on NFP then I have governmental left before I begin reviewing. So I'm really not familiar with either one, although I have looked at WTB a couple times and did 10 MCQ just for the heck of it once.

    I just hate dropping loads of money on CPAexcel, WTB, etc. and not using it, ya know? I feel like maybe I should just stay with what I've got? I wish I could've given myself an extra week for review, but I'm scheduled for the last day to have scores come out on the 21st or 22nd of November, so I'm just gonna stick with it!

    It does not take too long to get to adaptive stage, IF you ONLY choose new questions and you choose ALL the sections. I do think NINJA MCQ is awesome. However, I would consider whether you could finish WTB first. If you can finish WTB and start on NINJA, great. If it's too much, stick to WTB.

    This is just personal experience. In FAR, I went through all the materials in Wiley and did all the questions on WTB, and I got a 74. Later, I bought Ninja MCQ, and wrote down all questions I got wrong, reviewed them day and night and got a 81. Even though I bought Wiley Platinum, since that day, I have stuck with Ninja MCQs. 3 weeks is ideal in my opinion if you do 100 questions a day and 300 a weekend. If you fall behind on the weekdays daily 100, you can catch up during weekends, but never let it fall too behind, and you will be rewarded.

    @hasy Thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I will work on WTB and see if I feel like I need Ninja afterward!

    @Substantial Assurance I appreciate your tips! I will have to remember that. I have about 75 pages left of the book to read and then I will be ready for review. I'm hoping to be reviewing starting Thursday. That will give me 11 days to review. Unfortunately not as long as you recommend. May I ask what you were trending to begin with? I'm happy to be finished reading the 1,000-page book but I'm scared that I will suck at the TB because I've forgotten things.

    Do you think it will start to come back to me? Do you have any suggestions on how to get myself prepared with 11 days to review?

    I agree with @Subtantial Assurance. Ninja MCQ was times better than WTB. Also, you should definitely start doing MCQ now.If you don’t do practice questions, you’re being very inefficient with your time. The questions are supposed to help reinforce material that you’ve read. So you may find that you are forgetting or have no recollection of stuff that you have read months ago. For your other sections, try doing MCQ over all material you’ve covered throughout your study time.

    The good thing is that you have 2 weeks until test time. Ninja MCQ should help nicely. They are more difficult, there are more questions and they have better explanations to help our understanding. FYI, I used CPA Excel as well. Do your best to do all the questions at least once to at least. Good luck!

    Took FAR back in August 2016 and failed and haven't studied since due to vacations, work, and life in general. I haven't scheduled my next exam because I want to feel 100% comfortable with the material and MCQ before I schedule it again. Is 4 weeks too little for studying time if I want to shoot for my next exam to be end of Nov 2016? I have Becker and wanted to supplement it with Ninja Notes. Any suggestions??

    I am in the same boat you are. FAR in 23 days, and I fully intend on purchasing Ninja MCQ and working through all of them within the next two weeks. I did this for AUD, and it worked out. I like their MCQ better than the Wiley TB because of the variety of questions. If you've done a majority of the WTB problems (as I have,) I think Ninja MCQ is totally worth the investment.

    It's never too late to do more problems or re-listen to a lecture, etc.

    I'll tell you a true story… I purchased Ninja Audio for Audit and listened to maybe 1 or 2 of the chapters. On my way to the exam I said what the hell and threw on a lecture I hadn't listened to before for a problem area of mine — low and behold there was some obscure mention of a certain item in the lecture which stuck with me and ultimately ended up appearing as one of my multiple-choice questions!

    Ever since then I throw on my audio lectures on my way to every exam…

    @neaux2135 I have been doing the MCQ and TBS over each section as I go, just not cumulatively. Is this bad? I appreciate your recommendation for NTB. It seems like the MCQ aren't as lengthy as those in the individual sections. Would you say, in general, that the actual exam's questions are more simple than most questions in study/review material? I apologize if this is an inappropriate question. I'm not asking about any topic or question in particular, so I don't think it is violating any rules.

    @cat_garfield I personally would not consider four weeks enough time, but that's just me. If you had just failed, I feel like that would be adequate. For example, if I fail on the 14th, when I get my score on the 21st or 22nd, I will begin studying again and take it beginning or mid-January. But most information would still be fresh in my mind – I would just reread weak areas and do the review. But since it has been since August that you've even looked at the material, I would start from scratch. Maybe you can do it in four weeks if the material comes back to you quickly, but if you're using CPAexcel, the 1,000-page book would be hard for me to get through in four weeks including studying.

    @KSOZE
    Thanks for your response! It seems that's the general consensus. From what I've experienced, though, most questions seem to be on the short side in NTB. Is this true or have I just not gotten into it enough?

    @garydegiovanni
    I haven't touched WTB yet except for literally ten questions just to see what they were like. Would you recommend me working through them all anyway or just skip it and use only NTB?

    @accountingisfun
    It's funny how that works! Sometimes things like that just stick in your mind! I don't work and my graduate courses are online, so I'm really not in my car much except maybe 20 minutes a day total, so I've never considered Audio. However, I do have a 2-hour drive to the closest Prometric so maybe I should get audio lol. I agree though that some things just stick in your mind and I am definitely one of those people who need to keep my brain active right up until the exam.

    Thanks everyone for your replies! I really appreciate all of them, it makes me feel like I have support in this exam since I don't personally know anyone in the accounting field at all. It can be frustrating sometimes just having everyone say “I will be fine” and to “not worry about it”. I appreciate their support and confidence in me, but jeeze…sometimes that's just not what I need lol.

    @scared_cpa That depends on you to be honest. If you get through a majority of the WTB questions and start to feel like you're memorizing the answers to the questions instead of the concepts the question is trying to deliver (it's happening to me right now,) then supplementing with a different test bank might be the difference between scoring a 74 and scoring a 75 for you. I've seen multiple posts recommending a supplemental study source, and I agree.

    @scared_cpa – yes NTB is on the short side, but you know what? I found that to be true for the exams mostly! I'd rather be able to drill more questions without reading long, drawn out convoluted questions.

    Except for FAR – I needed the extreme difficulty of the Gleim test bank to nail that one.
