Is the Gleim CPA REG book any good?

People are going to think I’m out of my mind for starting this thread since I haven’t even gotten my REG score yet, but I don’t know, I think I might’ve possibly bombed the exam and I’m prepared to get back up and tackle this beast should I have to retake. I figured I’d plan ahead in the event I get a failing score. I know I have to focus on BEC now, but once I take that next month, I want to dive right back into REG immediately. I honestly thought the Wiley book was extremely weak in certain areas. So, I’d rather not use that book again. I’m definitely going to buy the Gleim software for $50 to get practice. But I was thinking…. they have their book plus the software together for $85. And no, I’m not going to buy it now, but I do plan to purchase it later on when I’m ready to restudy for REG.

Has anyone here used the Gleim book for REG? Did it prepare you well for the exam and did it cover everything in the Content Specification?

Sorry, I have to bump again. All replies were lost.

How's the book? I'm thinking of buying it because I thought Wiley was too light in certain areas. I'm hoping Gleim would help fill in the gaps and get me the points I need to pass next time.

I got it. But I would like some info on the book. Is it any good? Does it do a good job of covering the “ancillary” materials?

They don't have ancillary material…it's just really dry and I didn't care for the format so much. BUT I will say they do get into details that Becker does not. I used it really to supplement and it helped tremendously there for the concepts that I just couldn't nail down. I will look back through it tonight and give you more of an idea. What parts of the exam do you feel you need the most focus on now?

    To name a few:

-Circular 230 (don't recall this topic being cover in the Wiley book at all)

-Built-In Gains (explanation was a bit poor and unclear in the Wiley book)

-Professional Responsibilities (I thought Wiley was EXTREMELY weak here)

CPAMan, I like Gleim. I have used it as my primary tool on all four sections. It is an outline … but fairly comprehensive. SU-1 (one of 20 study units) covers Circular 230 and Professional Responsibilities. SU-18 under section 4 on Special Taxes covers Built-In Gains Tax upon conversion from a C to S status. I hope this helps.
