    Hi all,
I am using Gleim to study for FAR and following the NINJA method. I don’t find the videos too helpful so I have been reading the book and taking notes but I have a hard time taking notes from the outline form that the book is in without writing down near everything, which is taking a long time to get through the units. I started studying last Monday and am through Unit 5 as of today. I’m worried I wont have time to go through the MCQ before rewriting my notes and final review. Does anyone have tips on how to take notes on the material without rewriting almost everything? I struggle with determining what is most important and less important because the smaller facts Gleim provided are generally facts that I did not previously know.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I used Gleim alone on all sections of the exam. I'm not sure of you purchased the premium package or not, but I didn't.

What worked for me was to follow the traditional Gleim outline. I would take the initial quiz for each section, then watch the power point and complete the related true/false questions, and finally would complete the section ending quizzes and simulations. I would look over the outline associated with each chapter, but they are very long and in dept, so I would skim through them. I took notes while watching the power points and rewrote those notes. Leading up to the exam, after completing all of the sections, I would try to take almost all of the final quizzes over again and just completed multiple choice questions as much as I could stand.

If I felt I wasn't understanding something or continually missed the same multiple choice I would write the question and the answer and spend more time reviewing that particular area.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Jordan,

I am considering Gleim right now. How long does the Gleim traditional option last? Its website says the premium package guarantee until pass but I did not find it about the traditional package or just the test bank package.

    Thanks.

@mljordan37 – They cut the powerpoints from the new version of Gleim, I'm still mad about that.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

    CKCPA18,

I believe you get access for 18 months with the traditional version, not sure about the test bank package, but I would guess the same. If you add it to your shopping cart on the Gleim website it will show you when your rights would expire.

@mtaylo24 – Really!? I liked them a lot because they were so condensed compared to the video lectures that would drag on forever.

Yeah, we only get the audios, and you can't download them anymore, only stream. They did keep all of the JEs that were built in the powerpoint lectures and integrated them into the suggested steps after the T/F questions. I do like what they did with the digital book though.

    Thanks you mljordan37 and bobby.

Is the test bank option is good enough for preparing CPA exam? Right now this option has deal 40% off. I watched the Gleim video, I feel the instructors just read their PowerPoint and I am a kind of self-study person.

@mtaylo24 – you can still download the audio lectures. When you're in the Study Unit menu click on Additional Resources and it'll give you an option to Download audio lectures. I have the Premium version and have access until I pass, not sure which version you have.

ckcpa18, thanks for sharing info about 40% discount on the testbank. How did you learn about it? I can't see it on their website 🙁

I did well on both FAR and BEC using only Gleim, and I feel like my studying for REG with Gleim is going well also (but we'll see!).

Everyone is different so you have to do what works best for you. I've switched up my study method slightly a few times, and I feel like I've perfected it pretty well for me.

What I do is watch a lecture video to get an idea of the main topics of a subunit, then read the corresponding subunit out of the book. I tried taking notes in a notebook for a while and realized I was wasting SO MUCH TIME. I went back to just underlining a taking a few notes actually in my book. Once I finish a subunit, I go into the online version of the subunit, skim through as a quick review, then do the T/F questions.

Repeat until I've read a whole study unit. Then I do one 20 question “study session” (with the immediate feedback) open book to make sure I understand the concepts well enough to answer questions. Then I do two quizzes and two sets of sims, and I'm done! On to the next study unit.

I used to just try and read and take notes without watching the videos, but I learned that taking a few minutes to listen to the main points of a subunit really helps me get through the reading a lot faster, and helps to break it up so I'm not getting so distracted trying to read for long periods of time.
