If you’re using Gleim for FAR, please do not give up.

I felt miserable using Gleim for FAR review, the questions from Gleim were hard. But I got 73 in the final Gleim review, and my professor who also wrote Gleim FAR told me that “you will pass”

I still felt miserable during the exam. Lots of hard MCQ and there was a very difficult SIM. Didn’t feel too good after the test. But I found out yesterday I got 80.

Thank you Gleim, your questions are hard but they trained me well
Thank you Roger CPA, when I felt Gleim overwhelmed me with difficulty I went back to listen to Roger’s lecture to clarify the difficult concepts.

My program (graduate program) director once told me:”Sometimes it’s your own mind that tricks you, telling you ‘I can’t do this, I can’t do this’. Instead, convince yourself, speaking out loudly as you look at yourself through the mirror ‘I can do this’.”

Lastly I just want to shout out to my proud alumni:

    I-L-L

I have Gleim's FAR text from 2015 and Irvin N. Gleim's name is on the cover. You have a professor who wrote Gleim FAR? Was your professor Dr. Gleim himself??

You also said that you're using Roger CPA Review. Did you use that before or after you used Gleim? I'm assuming after, because you found Gleim to be difficult.
Yes, Gleim has a reputation for being hard. Some people will say that it means that Gleim users are overprepared for the exam and therefore, more pass. But, some will say
that Gleim is a hindrance and there's way too much extraneous stuff that isn't tested.

I will tell you – my story is similar to yours. Last year, I compared three vendors. Roger, Gleim, and Becker. I bought Roger. I started studying from Gleim's book actually. I did Chapter 1 and part of Chapter 2. It just seemed overkill and in a way, rather anal-retentive. I bought Roger. I got a 62 using Roger's materials. Looking back on it, the videos did not help me at all but I watched every single one of them, and for FAR, there are a ton of videos. I watched all the videos for AUD too, but didn't pass it either. I got much more out of doing the practice questions.

Anyway, I'm glad you passed. And a “CAN-DO” attitude is indeed important.

In the new 2017 text, the name “Michael Kustanovich” also appears at the bottom right corner of Gleim FAR.

I bought Roger first because I have a discount coupon. Gleim text was a “gift” from my college as part of tuition. I found Gleim's practice questions to be much closer to the actual exam than Roger, and the textbook to be more comprehensive. So for me, Roger came to me first then Gleim afterwards. But I found Gleim prepared me to a very high level.

I totally agree with nalratoss. used Gleim for REG and got an 84 after failing with Becker. Using it now for FAR and learning the material even though its hard. Just keep practicing the MCQ even when you score really low the first or even couple first times

    FAR 8/20/15 - Passed 77
    AUD 10/10/15 -

    REG TBD

@nalratoss, did you use just testbank from Gleim or their review material and videos also? Would you please share how did you study? It would be really great.

I used Gleim for FAR, which was my first exam as well, and I'm currently waiting on my score. Would you say you were doing the about the same on the quizzes/study mode questions? I never did the final but in study mode I was at a 74% overall average and am a bit worried that I never hit 75%+.

@yahmon do you have any advice for me -I'm using Gleim for REG predominantly the testbank, went through over 60% of each section of the testbank. I started going through the subunits but one subunit would take me forever to complete so after completing about 8 subunits I just started killing MCQs, I haven't done that many practice Sims beside the ones in the sub units, any advice I test in 2 days?!

I believe I have the review material + video. The Gleim I used was part of the review course of my department for master of accounting students. Everyone picked up Gleim textbooks and were given access to Gleim online system that divides each exam to 20 or so study units. Just tell the system your exam date and Gleim will plot out a study plan for you. It's kinda brutal—-let's say if you only have 1 month or a little over that for REG, Gleim will tell you that you need to study (let's say) 6-7 hours per day non stop for 20 consecutive days, which is almost impossible because the mental toll from practicing Gleim questions is daunting. I spent 6 weeks on FAR using Gleim yet I felt rushed because I felt a little gassed during final week review for FAR and I already postponed my FAR exam by 10 days.

    @mccarta7

The Gleim produces some tough questions. What's more tough is that sometimes the system keeps pounding you to redo MCQs over and over again when you clearly felt comfortable about what you learned. Sometimes it makes me randomly guess MCQs just to get rid of it and call it a day—-only to find out tomorrow that Gleim reminds me I haven't finished that subunit.

Some chapters are relatively easy, such as inventory and PP&E. Some chapters are harder such as current liability, and that little chapter with change of accounting principles/estimates/error correction, DEPS calculation and revenue recognition. I believe I finished some chapters above 80% and some under 60%

@itagain worry less about how you're scoring on the MCQs and SIMS and more on understanding the answers. Seems like you have a good approach just keep it going. Also, know your basis for all business structures…trust me on this. Going back thru my performance report the only sections I was over 75% on was individual and entities. I feel like you have to know those really well to pass.

I will say this before taking the exam and even now I know how to calculate all the sections of a 1040 and 1120 at least conceptually. Using Gleim the exam seemed much easier I was actually surprised I didn't score better than a 84. Good luck!!

@nalratoss, thank you so much for the reply. Your guidance is really helpful. I have really less than 1 month and now I am planning to use the approach that you mentioned.

@Yahmon, thanks I think your advice is spot on. Tonight I completed all sections of Gleim test bank. Some sections have a max like 200 for BLAW and I did half. For taxation topics I went through all MCQS or more than half (pressed for time) tomorrow morning -My plan is to go through MCQS from each sub unit -25 per sub unit – if possible. Review SIMS from taxation topics – Individuals, Corp, Partnerships and Estate and Trust. Review form K-1 , 1120 & form 1040 as u recommend and hope for the best!! Thank you. Will keep you all posted.

@nalratoss, I wanted your feedback about the Gleim textbook. How do you think about it? Did you use it primarily or not?
