Gleim users…how do you feel about the REG MCQ’s in Gleim?

I have used Gleim for all four parts but I feel REG’s questions are very difficult compared to the other 3 sections. I’m averaging 60% on the MCQ’s and I feel like some of the questions are just a waste of time. Usually by this time in studying I feel like I am on track for exam day but not for this one. With less then 3 weeks out from test day, I think it’s time to switch to the NINJA MCQ’s. I’m already using the 10 point combo, I just need MCQ’s that aren’t going de-motivate me from studying.

I did use Gleim for REG and the second time I took it, I supplemented with NINJA audio, Blitz, and flashcards (why I didn't just buy the whole set, I don't know….). Anyway, where I thought Gleim fell down (for me) was the text and the AV presentation- soooooo boring and their examples were a little weird for me and the NINJA really made it real. I think that the Gleim MCQs approximate the real thing (sadly).

I am using Gleim to study and am actually studying for REG right now. After suffering through Gleim's FAR multiple choice questions, the REG ones are so much easier and I normally get in the 70s. I think it might just be strength versus weakness thing? Maybe doing them again will help you remember the theory behind them.

Besides for REG, have you been happy with Gleim? I have only taken FAR and waiting to hear what my score is, but I thought Gleim really prepared me.

I used Gleim for the CMA, read BEC and now FAR.

I only study the text and do the MCQs and sims. I think it is excellent preparation, better than Becker and Wiley, when I compare our explanations in the study groups. I heard Prof. Gleim wrote the first Wiley books…

I was scoring 90% after completion.

However, you have to be willing to put in the time to read carefully, take thorough notes, and do all the MCQs and sims.

And sometimes Gleim will go on a tangent to explain an odd AICPA released question or topic, that likely will never be tested again, just to say they covered it.

The exams I felt prepared for and I am overall happy with the review course. I have pass AUD and BEC on my 1st try with it and waiting on my FAR score.

I think the problem with REG is it's my weak subject. I figured out my problem with Gleim and it's the Gleim online questions. I don't like waiting until the end of the set of 20 mcq and then going back and reading the ones I got wrong. So instead I'm just going to go straight to test prep and do the study session mcqs. I think this will help so I can read the explanations as I go.

I have been putting in the time. An hour everyday during lunch, 2-3 hours everynight and atleast 10 hours on the weekends. NINJA audio to/from work and half the time at work I listen to NINJA audio or blitz.

So I used gleim for Audit, Reg and FAR so far. For Reg, I was getting utterly dominated by the Multiple Choice questions throughout my study time. I was floundering at the low 60s for much of it and by the end I finally was cracking 70% and a lot of that was due to repeat questions. Low and behold I got an 86 on the exam!

But I was getting beaten down by gleim, and by the time I was studying for FAR, I just had enough. I couldn't take the mega paragraph questions and I needed something new. So with 5 days to go I bought the ninja MCQs and it was a breath of fresh air. The main thing that helped is that I got a major boost from working with a new test bank. It also helped that the ninja mcqs are more streamlined. I just couldn't take getting destroyed any more. I will find out my score on friday but I am sure that ninja helped my performance.

So I would say that gleim is a solid course as it has been what I've used for all but 5 days of studying for 3 parts of the cpa exam. But after a while gleim can just beat you down. I actually came up with a stupid word to describe it. When gleim tricks me or just stumps me cold on a question, I say “I've been frosted”. “frosted” came to mind because it felt like i was being pummeled by a gian glacier while being frozen with liquid nitrogen whilst being attacked by a snowman all at the same time.

I think it is funny how I used gleim for so long with decent success but I still felt a need to use something as a supplement. I would at least buy the ninja test bank as an alternate study source. You will be surprised at how invigorating it is to study from a different format. And after mixing it up a bit, going back to gleim won't seem as bad, except for the fact that you will get many more questions wrong!

It is good to know that those long problems are in Gleim. They are probably the difference between passing or not passing.

Yes, I groan over them too, and sometimes spend 15-20 minutes working them, but if it were easy everyone would pass.

There is a trade-off between comfortable study and the security of passing.

And I would much rather groan over hard problems than groan over failing.

Does the Ninja MCQ bank follow a structure/chronology for units/sections similar to Gleim?

Galina, ninja mcqs are laid out in about 6 main categories while gleim has 20. But if you complete the gleim course than you won't have to worry cause everything will have been covered.

M.O.D – I agree that the tough problems have value, but I honestly was getting burnt out. I was thinking about postponing. So for me it was not take the test or try something fresh. So it truly made a difference. I understand what gleim is about but I just needed something else. And with gleim tough problems some really do help you get a deeper understanding, but there are a fair share of truly poor questions.

Basically, anything that gets me excited to study works best. You can scratch and claw many different ways but keeping up maximal effort is key. Ninja mcqs helped me keep up my maximal effort.
