i am studying the Gleim CPA BEC Review 2006 for the BEC section.. Do you think the materials will be too old to sit for the May2009?

I dont think any of the materials would have changed per se. However, newer courses would have the recent AICPA released questions which is always a good idea to review…

You are attempting one of the most difficult licensing exams that exist.

I am back for a second time trying to regain credit for expired sections and I replaced all my old study material.

If you are going to invest your time, which is priceless, spend some money on updated material. Do everything possible to give yourself the advantage.

I have a restricted budget but I do not regret the money I spent on Gleim and Yeager.

I understand that I am using old materials of 2006 for BEC but I am only using this for the BEC section. The rest I will be using the updated BECKER 2010/2011 once I find out if I pass the BEC section.

My company is willing to pay for the review course once I pass one exam and before I invest in the study course I thought if I review BEC since there may not be any much changes. I have the MC exams to review on GLEIM for BEC and I have the 2010 BECKER book only (not the questions).

I also printed out updated materials for the BEC.

From your last post, I would say in my own humble opinion that I think you are not taking this exam seriously… I have met a few people in my Becker classes and there are a few that are not too serious and it shows. None has passed any part if not just one. A few didnt even take it and forfeited the fees… Out of everyone I met and kept in contact with in the FAR class (including 4 people working for the Big 4), I was the only one to pass in that window and everyone was serious about it… But I also studied 400 hours and only took 1 day off as a break. If you dont want to spend the money on new material and use 06 material, go ahead, but you would probably end up spending more money by buying new material after spending 300 bucks for the 1st time you failed and as many more times before you realize the true difficulty of this exam… Consider your company paying for the other materials a benefit…

Beware! The 2006 review materials are out of date. Using old review materials is how I failed the FAR exam the first time. After I failed FAR I threw all old review materials and textbooks into the trash. Using old materials is one of the major reasons CPA candidastes fail. I learned that lesson the hard way. Yaeger and Gleim for BEC are inexpensive insurance.

Yaeger combines the best of Becker (lectures) and Gleim (organized multiple choice questions). Yaeger gives a short lecture and then reviews the multiple choice questions in the Wiley book. Yaeger teaches and Becker reviews. It as simple as that.

You will not find out how great the people at Yaeger are until you order one of their review programs. I am 100% sold on this company. Yaeger has done everything in their power to help me pass these exams. Additionally, Yaeger is the least expensive of the review programs.

Then decide how badly you want this because even under the best circumstances it is painful. If you think I'm overstating the condition, ask for other opinions.

If you want this badly enough, give yourself every chance possible.

Buy current materials.

carolen204 – You did say that you have the 2010 BEC book from Becker. Some people could learn the material just from the book. However, with the difficulty of chapters 3 & 5, you really would need practical multiple choice questions to learn the concepts. My experience with BEC is I thought I did the best on BEC when I left the test center of any of the four exams and receives my lowest passing score. BEC is not easy and do not underestimate it. I think if you ask a hundred people on this forum if they would try to pass BEC with 2006 material you would get a hundred people tell you to buy new material. It is not worth the risk in my mind. I used Becker 2009 and passed in 2009. Some say Yeager is great for BEC and reasonably price if that is possible. I agree with some of the other comments, these exams are tough enough without giving yourself a handicap with old material. Good Luck!
