Becoming an EA: Gleim vs Passkey vs Fast Forward Academy?

So I have read through several of the post. I am looking at getting my EA and would like to know how long it took some of you? Is it doable to get it in a month or so? I have a BS in accounting and my MBA in management, and have been working in corporate accounting (AP/AR/Payroll/Sales tax etc). But I have no actual experience in taxation which is why I am considering the EA.

Also it looks like Fast Forward Academy, Gleim and Passkey look to be what several have used. Could one just use the FFA or Passkey book and questions and still do well?

I have passed 2 EA exams so far. Each time I studied about a month or so (while working full time + Grad school + two toddlers at home), but I work in tax so this helped. I use Fast Forward Academy and I do like it, but have no experience with any other software. I think it's fairy easy to pass, I have Business section left and I think this is the hardest one.

I've never taken them personally, but my coworker's wife took them. Every time he went to take a CPA exam she would take an EA exam. She passed them all on the first try without studying at all. She's also a staff tax accountant at another firm. I think if you study at all and have experience, you'll have no problems.

I'm an EA, the questions are exactly like the REG tax questions, but more in detail. Since the exam is split up into individual, corporate, and ethics the tax questions are harder. I passed them first try. If you have your accounting degree I would say forget the EA and study for the CPA.

Thank you all for you replies! And CPA is definitely in my future but I really want to study up on taxation.

Yes, you can pass it in a month if you want to do nothing but study. I used the Gleim study books, and I passed them all on the first try. This was from a person who had limited tax experience at the time. The exam questions on the EA exam were identical to the ones in the Gleim book. I was shocked.

All I can say is go for it. What do you have to lose? That's right, nothing. You only have everything to gain!

@Bmickles I have a book that came with the online package. I also have access to e-book, practice exams, tons of multiple questions and study planner. And there is no time restriction on the whole thing + free updates. The package with discounts was like $500
