Are the Gleim questions in AUD harder or easier than the actual CPA exam questions?

I was going through the material in the Wiley book and was wracking my brain just to fully understand the concept. I was wracking my brain even more with the review questions in the book. They were really tricky and hard. A couple of days ago, I purchased the AUD Gleim CPA software so I can start practicing with more MC questions. I was very happy with the practice I got from it when I studied for the FAR exam. And since the questions in their FAR test bank were very challenging, I felt that they gave me good practice. However, I’ve done a couple of question sets on their AUD test bank and am surprised to say that they seem significantly easier than the questions I was practicing in the Wiley book. I’m getting mostly 80s on these practice sets. And believe me, I’ve always been a lousy Auditing student, but I’m finally nailing the concept with Yaeger’s review course. But it just puzzles me that the Wiley questions really challenged the heck out of me, but the Gleim questions are the opposite. When I was practicing with Gleim’s FAR questions, they were extremely tough, but so far, this doesn’t seem to be the case with their AUD questions.

So tell me…..are these Gleim questions easier, hardier, or about the same as the actual exam questions?

Ok, I talked too fast. In the beginning, Gleim was throwing easy questions at me. Now, it's giving hard questions. Weird. I kind of felt the same way when I was doing practice sets with FAR. I don't know. I'm averaging around 60s and 70s on these Gleim practice sets, with a few rare occasions when I hit the 80s. Not looking good. Got 26 more days to study. I sure hope I can do this. Many people here have claimed they've consistently got 90s on Gleim, so I have a long way to go.

Not me! I scored in the 70% to 80% range on Gleim and scored an 86 on the exam.

I studied Gleim a bit differently with AUD than the other sections. Because it was so much memorization and not as much reasoning, I worked the MCQs in study mode rather than test mode. With AUD, you either know it or you don't.

    BEC - 10/18/2010 - 79
    FAR - 10/28/2010 - 82
    AUD - 11/04/2010 - 73; 02/18/2011 - 86 - IT'S OVER!!!!!!
    REG - 11/21/2010 - 83

@tulip – Did you use Gleim for the other 3 tests as well? Did you use any other MCQs such as Wiley or CPAReviewforfree? How many total MCQs did you end up going through to pass?

@tulip – Did you supplement anything else with Gleim? I will retaking AUD on May 12th for the 5th time and am getting really nervous as to my study method. I hope and pray I practice enough to pass.

Working with Gleim MCQ and am trying to read thru the Gleim book as well. I am trying to practice from the Wiley test bank too. Would help if someone could share their study plan using Gleim Mcq with or without textbook and/or Wiley test bank.

Hope I am able to pass this time else will lose REG credit.

    thanks

Like i said in my second post, I talked too fast. When I tested myself on Planning, Internal Control, and Other Reports, the questions were actually easier than Gleim. I got mid-80s on those. Then when I tested myself on the other modules, which were Evidence, Reporting, and Sampling, I dropped to around 65-80%. Then when I tested myself on Professional Responsibilities (which was today), it was a disgrace and now I feel like jumping out the window. Starting tomorrow, I'll be testing myself on ALL modules, while also reviewing those modules that I tested poorly on.

Errr… 24 days to go until test day. I'm really losing my patience. I was hoping to hit 90s on these question sets by now. I don't know if I can do this. Here I was on January 2011 with full confidence that I can pass this exam and now, I'm all depressed and my confidence is fading away.

@ tulip – thank you for your reply. it does help to know that gleim mcq and book have been helpful to you and it should be enough. Congrats on being done.

@ CPAMan – goodluck to you as well, don't be depressed and try to stay positive and keep practicing.

I try to stay positive, but it's very hard to when you've given up your whole life to study for this exam and it's not paying off. I've literally given up my life, no joke. I almost never turn on the TV and turn down invitations to get together with my family/friends. All I do is work 40 hours a week, eat, study, and then sleep. In fact, I don't think I should count sleep as part of my daily routine because I don't get much of it anymore. I get too busy studying that I go to bed very late sometimes. I study 3-5 hours a day. I put in 20-30 hours a week. It's crazy. I study study study and give up everything and it doesn't look like it's paying off. This is ridiculous. And yes, I am studying the way I'm supposed to and I am grasping the concept. The problem is….no matter how much material you understand, it's just never enough.

I feel your frustration. It is really hard to study for these exams. I studied for REG four months and I really did the best I could. I too gave up friends and social gatherings. I had to stop returning my friends call to make them stop calling me. Anyways. On Saturday I gave the REG exam. I did good on MCQs but fumbled heavily in sims. I was focusing on so many rules and details that I forgot to apply one big general rule. So now one sim worksheet is totally wrong. Research Q was way too hard. I spent lot of time trying to find the answer and did not succeed. With two worksheets out the window and some possible mistakes on others, I don't think I can pass. I was very upset for a couple days and I don't have time to be upset. I have to study for AUD and keep enough time for another REG try before BEC expires.

But the only thing that keeps me going is “I did my best and no one can ask for more.” So now I have stopped kicking myself and moving one. My advice is the same for you. Do your best within your time constraints. If you don't get your target score, try reading the material again.

There is something very weird about the way some of those Gleim questions are worded. Some of their questions (not all) are worded very funny and the correct answers can be debatable at times. I have a hunch that some of those questions were pre-test questions on previous exams and were thrown out.

I have used the Gleim test bank for all four sections of the exam. The one thing that I have noticed is the publisher adapted questions are hard to follow and to understand sometimes. Sometimes I cannot even find information the question is asking in my Wiley book?? These questions are the ones that I have the most trouble in answering and are usually the ones I get incorrect most often.

There seems to be a ton of publisher adapted questions in the REG section.

As far as I can, the publisher adapted questions are harder because the question is bad. Most of the time the questions are unclear about what they are trying to ask. I believe those types of questions are there to make you think and memorize the CPA stuff.

But that's my experience with the publisher adapted.

Ok, I've been doing a lot of practice questions lately and am now hitting the 80s in Gleim. I'm doing sets of 30 questions on ALL modules. I'm starting to get the hang of doing these MCQs.

Now, I'm working on the Simulations. I find the Sims in the Wiley book rather difficult. And these are worth 40% too. That's a lot! I have two more weeks to study. I'm going work on a lot of Sims this week and next week and hopefully start mastering those. I know the concept, but I find them a lot trickier than the MCQs.

I use Gleim and Wiley. But everytime I will spend 1.5~ 2 hours on finishing 90~100 MCs in the same time. I would like to say Gleim's MCs be more straightforward compared with Wiley's. One strange thing is that I did good job for Wiley Textbook Simulation but it was really terrible for me to do simulation on testbank. Take an example, actually 0.5*b2*d2=b2*d2*0.5, the wiley testbank would never recognize it and seriously degrade my test score. I am not so diligent to take more than 40 hours one week on studying. I should be shamed for my previous lazy schedule, but I am catching up now for the last 4 days!

i am also now struggling with this stuff. I was curious about your guys methods of studying. i am using Yaeger review and i was wondering did you guys watch the lecture on a module, then do the MCQ for that model? or did everyone watch all of the lectures and then do all of the MCQ??? i have been doing lecture then doing the MCQs for that model before moving on to the next module. I am incredibly frustrated and lacking motivation. obviously success is good motivation, but after working 8 hrs then going home, the last thing i want to do is study. I know everyone has gone / is going through this and i was wondering if you guys had any motivation tips or focus tips PLEASE. haha

@CPAMan I couldnt relate to you more. I definitely hate every day not being able to do what i want after work and being forced to sit there and read over the LITTLEST details about auditing that go against logic and are so frustrating. i give you credit for studying so much, because i just cant do it. ive definitely been slacking just because of my lack of focus and im sure its gonna come back to bite me. good luck tho man, maybe we can get through this together.
