Has anyone ever used Gleim for FAR? I am thinking about buying it if I don’t get a passing score tomorrow on FAR? I will also be using Becker and Ninja? Does anyone know if the multiple choice in Gleim are different? I want a fresh look at questions.

I used Gleim because my work paid for it. The study questions are by far worth the investment. But the lectures put me to sleep – dull, dry and boring! So I paid on my own for Roger And the money is in his lectures. Clearly my scores are not great but this is my plan so far.

At12thman – I followed the Gleim approach but tweaked it a little to fit my study habit.

The customizable TB and the Study Session are the best features helping you work on your weak areas.

Don't blow off the SIMs either. They are an extension of your study. Do each one and study stem. You'll find them useful in understanding each topics.

@Skynet – Thanks for sharing your Gleim tips. I am strongly considering making the purchase since I keep reading such good things about their materials. Most that follow their suggest study routine, say the pass rather comfortably. Did you also watch the lectures and/or PowerPoint presentations?

Ag12thman – I did not watch the lectures and Power Points . They were just too boring. I did listen to the Audio a lot.

@Skynet – So, primarily, you read the book and worked the problems, I assume? I hear you on the lectures and PowerPoints — I tend to doze off after a few minutes of those. Seems I do much better by just reading the book.

I just found out this morning that I got an 86 on FAR using only Gleim. I modify the approach they suggest somewhat, but it seems to be working for me. I skip the pre-quiz, alternate watching videos and reading a section, then do the 30 T/F questions, then just do either some quizzes or study sessions until I feel comfortable. I finish up a study unit by doing a sim. I also skip the audio and powerpoint lectures (super boring and really not very insightful). I listened to the audio a few times in my car but other than that thought it wasn't very helpful.

I probably spend more time being really thorough with my reading than I do with practice problems. I know most people want to get through as many MCQs as possible, but it works for me to make sure I truly learn the material through reading and then follow up with 60 MCQs or so to emphasize what I just learned.

Overall though I would recommend Gleim to anyone. I have nothing to compare it to, but I still think it's a great system.

@Skynet & @Allie530 – Thanks to you both for the information you've shared. It's very helpful to some of us who are considering Gleim for upcoming exam prep. I'm wondering about the Gleim books. How are they? Are they reader-friendly? They aren't jammed full of small, tiny font and/or aren't overly long-winded on the concepts are they? I just don't want to purchase ooemthing I will hate staring at, especially with as long as I'm gonna have to stare at it!

Hey Allie how do you do only one sim at a time? I get overwhelmed pretty easily on the sims so I was hoping I could figure out a way to just practice one at a time. When I look in the test bank it still gives you multiple ones at a time.

@Ag12thman – the books are done in outline form. Straight and to the point. So they aren't very exciting, but I like it because I feel like I'm not wasting my time with a bunch of fluff. However, the reason I switch back and forth between videos and the book is because I can get bogged down from reading for too long. Overall though I like the way they are organized.

    @AScott89
    – when I said one sim I meant one set of sims like they come. I don't think there is a way to do just one problem, unfortunately. It would be awesome if they had “study session” sims with immediate feedback.

@Allie530 I know right? I would love to do just one SIM at a time with immediate feedback like the NINJA MCQs.

Do you have any tips for business consolidations, more specifically the elimination of the intra-entity stuff? Some of those questions just keep throwing me for a loop.

Some of that stuff got confusing for me too – especially the eliminations for intra-entity sales. I have a small whiteboard that I use when studying – for me that's more fun than paper for whatever reason and I can use different colored markets to color-code things. What I did was mapped out the whole process using JEs AND T-accounts and went over it again and again. I would use a different color for the different entities. I did it not until I had it memorized, but until it truly made sense to me why those eliminations were necessary.

I also did it using the example in the book rather than doing MCQs. That way I had a better explanation and could see each step. Sometimes the explanations in study sessions just aren't enough.

    Anyway, hope that's helpful!

Thanks @Allie I never thought about doing JEs and using different colors for each part. I'm pretty visual so that might be just what I need.

I used Gleim exclusively for CMA and so far for CPA. Passed both CMA parts first try. Passed AUD & FAR first try. BEC is Wednesday.

I follow the Gleim system. There are 3 lecture options – you choose what works best for you. I like the powerpoints. Audio only I can tune out easily and I didn't like the guy on the video lectures. The powerpoint very nicely switches between male & female voices so it helps if my mind starts to wander.

So my steps are: Pre-quiz, powerpoint, T/F questions, Read Text, Post quiz, 2 20 question MCQ quizzes (unless first quiz score is 85+), SIMs.

For AUD & FAR they were the toughest parts for me so I actually read the book and worked the questions in the book section by section before I went back online & did the quizzes there.

My exam rehearsal scores for AUD & FAR were 69 & 65 respectively. Actual Exam scores were 87 & 82 respectively.

    I HIGHLY recommend Gleim.

    A - 4/16/16 87!!

    Another Question for Gleim users ( @Skynet, @Allie530, @AScott89, @gigabyte2001 ):

When working the Gleim MCQs and or SIMs, does the software provide you with the reasons and/or explanations for why the correct answer is correct and why the incorrect answers are incorrect??? Also, the questions provide a link to the book or video, maybe???

    Thanks in advance.

@Ag12thman It doesn't link you to the book like Wiley. You get a different answer explanation for any selection you make. Here's an example:

Question: 1 Mike is a CPA. Widget, Inc., is an accrual-basis taxpayer. In Year 3, while preparing Widget’s Year 2 return, Mike discovered that Widget failed to include income on its Year 1 return that Widget received in Year 2 but that should have been included in income in Year 1 under the accrual method of accounting. What must Mike do?

    A. Include the income on the Year 2 return.
    B. Change Widget to the cash method of accounting.
    C. Advise Widget of the error and the consequences of the error.
    Answer (C) is correct.
An agent who knows that a client has not complied with the revenue laws of the U.S. is required to promptly advise the client of noncompliance as well as the consequences of noncompliance under the Code and Regulations. Under Circular 230, the agent is not required to notify the IRS.
    D. Refuse to prepare Widget’s Year 2 return until Widget agrees to amend its Year 1 return to include the amount of income.

For the sim wizard, you can split the pane between your sim and results, and there is a tab for the answer explanation. You have to use it on a pc though, as it uses java. Cant use that on a phone or ipad.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)
