Just started studying FAR with 2013 Becker. What can I expect as far as what lessons are the most difficult and are most emphasized on the exam?

They'll tell you what to focus on.

I found F2 to be the most challenging, whenever I did my progress tests, it'd be my weakest area.

    FAR (5/07/13): 96

Right there with you buddy, starting Becker FAR tonight. Well, I guess technically I've dabbled with it before only to quit for some other section but I agree with mangos that F2 is pretty rough. I'm actually thinking of starting with F3 and working my way back around to F2 last since F1 and F2 cover a lot of all-encompassing financial accounting info like the financial statements and accrual basis theory and could be good (but challenging) wrap-up sections.

I only used Becker Self Study for FAR and I managed to pass. I thought it did a great job at emphasizing what was heavily tested. The only thing I didn't like was that they didn't really prepare me that well for the SIMs

I agree F2 was the hardest. Most of the MCQs didn't seem to relate to what was in the chapter. It's hard to tell what's more emphasized on the exam. I had a lot of NFP, Government and IFRS on my exam. I was told F5 is highly tested, but barely saw anything relating to that chapter on my exam. It's all the luck of the draw, every exam is different. I do highly recommend knowing IFRS though.

@MrsBing – Do you recommend getting the entire Wiley Test Bank or will the Becker MCQ suffice?

    Thank you.

I recommend getting Wiley if you think you have time to go through both. I used Wiley for my final 2 week review only. I went through the Becker MCQs twice, not including the times I went through in progress tests. After awhile, you become really familiar with the questions and may even remember the answers because you saw it so many times. I think Wiley is great because they're new questions that you're not familiar with them and it gives you another way to look at the problems.

Personally, I thought F5 was one of the toughest chapters. Took me forever to get through those questions. Make sure you hit F8 & F9 pretty hard, too, especially if you've never had governmental and not for profit accounting before! Afterall, it is 16-24% of the test.

Overall, I thought it prepared me very well. I didn't use any other supplemental material other than the Becker flashcards, but you could do without them.

@MrsBing – Thank you. If I have time, I will purchase the WTB to supplement.

@hopefulTXcpa – I have the flashcards and they have proven to be a great way for me to remember the material from prior chapters as I progress through the material. I really do think they are the difference.

    Thanks everyone.

Have to say Becker is the best prep software available! Due to scheduling issues I had exactly 10 days for getting ready for FAR and I thought just give it a shot, and I passed with an 80! 10 days of hardcore studying but it was worth it. Thanks Becker!

I would focus on F2, F5, F8 and F9. Doesn't mean those will be highly tested on the exam you get but there is a high probability. But really any chapter that you find difficult you should review until you understand it.
