Using Becker for FAR - Page 3

I have failed FAR twice using Yaeger and I was considering taking a live class from Becker. It will be a pretty big sacrifice because I will have to pay for it out of my own pocket, not to mention drive an hour to attend a 6-10 pm class after work. For those who have experience with both, do you think live Becker is worth the money? Are you ready to test right after you finish the class or are there more self study hours involved after the class?

This is my last one to pass and I just want to get it over with, even if it is a great sacrifice for 5 weeks. I would really appreciate input. Thanks!

I think this has been touched on a bit, but you mentioned something about studying for 3 more months, and maybe that is part of the problem– that you are studying for too long. If you can crunch down your studies for one section to no more than 6-8 weeks, that may help your retention of the information.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

That is an interesting point. The first 2 times I took 2 months each to study and figured since I didn't pass I needed more time. I mentioned in a previous post that there is a guy out there who says that if you use CPA excel and just read the material and do the practice questions while skipping all the extraneous stuff like their flashcards, practice questions, etc. he thinks that is enough. I might try that.

I wouldn't study more than 8 weeks for a given exam.

I'm getting a 404 error message when I try to download. So you are saying study as many hours as you have to in 8 weeks? Is that because you feel that you forget too much after that time? Any advice is appreciated!

Yes, you start to forget the earlier portion of your studies, so it becomes excess after a certain number of weeks.

You should probably focus on the quality of your studies rather than the quantity, although if you can go from 20 hours to more like 25 hours per week, that may help, too. Then you're fitting in more time during that crucial 6-8 week period.

I think the key will be to find the right program for you. And also try the NINJA method within that if you haven't already– handwriting notes yourself makes a mind-body connection that helps most people process the information in a more thorough way than just watching a video and highlighting/underlining.
