Using 2012 edition of Becker for Reg

I am currently studying for REG and I am using the 2012 edition of Becker. I am wondering if this is okay to study since it is based on the 2011 tax year/deductions/rates. Do I need to study a newer version that relates to the 2012 tax year, and new tax laws that were implemented in 2013?

this questions gets brought up quite frequently and in my opinion there is only one answer…

i would never use old material to study for an exam. You have already noted that changes have been implemented so why would you waste months studying and hundreds of dollars to take an exam when the material is outdated?

    doesnt that seem crazy????

If you purchased becker you can get new materials for a nominal fee whether or not you did the becker promise. Otherwise there are other good programs out there…im sure Jeff will chime in with his coupon codes on the others..

    Good Luck!

I am using Becker 2012 right now for REG as well. Go onto Becker's website and you'll find all of their updates for the 2013 exam. It isn't as bad as you'd expect. Most of the changes occur in Unit 1, 2, and 3 (Individual Tax/Corporate Tax)… after those units, very few changes.

I'd recommend reading through the a chapter and take notes or whatever you normally do. Then at the end of that chapter or subchapter, go to the Updates and change the numbers for 2013.

    B - (08/29/2013) Passed
    A - (07/02/2013) Passed
    R - (10/17/2013) 73 - Rematch
    F - (05/29/2013) Passed

@P or F – do you have a link to the Becker site where it shows the updates? I am also using the 2012 book and received my becker promise before 2013 stuff came out. All i could find on their website were changes to answers and simulations. Nothing significant for material. I figure that most of the time, the exam itself doesn't ask for exact numbers, so i should be ok, but I guess anything is possible.

@kels417 here you go: . Keep in mind that the page numbers are related to the 2013 book, so they may not align with your material.

    Thanks, @barelystayingsane!!

Ps…I can relate to your username. Having a mini breakdown as I type. My FAR score, although I knew I failed when I walked out, has me pretty down and questioning my quest at becoming a CPA. 🙁 this exam is just the worst!
