To Becker or Not To Becker? That is the question

I am studying for my last two exams and need advice on study material. I have been using Yaeger/Wiley and they got me through AUD and BEC but I am having trouble with REG and FAR. I would like to purchase Becker before my AUD credit runs out in October but the price is a bit high. Then I thought to just purchase the books from someone but I’m not sure if that’s enough. I wish I could purchase Becker’s ‘final review’ (reasonable price) but that’s only for past or current students. Any suggestions on the route I should take?

Have you tried NINJA notes? If not, I'd try those before forking out the money for Becker.

FAR is Becker's strong suit but is substandard for REG in my opinion. I had to supplement Becker with the Wiley Online Test Bank for REG, but only for the tax portion. Becker is sufficient for the business law content.

Go NINJA before you drop ridiculous cash on something else.

@under -every person relates to review courses and exam sections differently. I used on Beckers for REG and found it to be excellent – getting me a 90. I see you are struggling with REG but I don't think it's s fair to blame it on Beckers!

    REG- 2/12 - 90 | AUD- 4/12 - 94 | BEC- 5/12- 85 | FAR- 8/12 - 82
DONE!!! I used Becker Self Study & Ninja Notes/Audio

Becker with Wiley Testbank is excellent for REG. I think Wiley testbank has great MCQs for Tax while Becker does a great job with Blaw. Using them together, you shouldn't need anything else!

I also used Ninja notes to go over couple topics that I had difficulty understanding in Becker, however, I didn't end up using it as much as other people. I believe practicing MCQs is the best way to learn and Wiley testbank provides that!

    @ Cunnigham…

Could you tell us how you've been studying with Yaeger? I thought they did a great job on FAR (haven't taken REG so can't form an opinion on that yet). Have you taken FAR previously? The NINJA notes are a good supplement because they give a different angle on the topics. If you can't understand something one way, it might help to see it in a different way. I really think if you use Yaeger lectures, pound MCQ's in the Wiley testbank and the ones Cindy recommends in the book and read the NINJA notes, you should be good to go. It might also help you to read the modules in the book as opposed to just listening to the lectures.

@marks – Dude, did you even read my post, or are you just another Becker lapdog? As you can see in my signature, I used Becker for each of my exams, so I'm definitely not blaming it. Without Becker, I would not have passed the CPA Exam. I made it clear that it was my OPINION that Becker was insufficient for REG. Lastly, I struggled (not ‘struggling') with REG. Read thoroughly before you react next time.

@ Under – My apologies! I am not just a Becker lapdog, but when I originally started studying, I read posts like yours and started to get nervous wondering if Beckers is indeed enough – since there are people out there insisting that for section XXX you NEED to supplement blah blah…..

Then I found out, that Beckers is sufficient on it's own for all 4 sections. Yes, individuals do have weak spots, and if so by that spot they may need to supplement as they would with any program. It just bothers me when that is spread and creates paranoia – as people read that and get nervous that Beckers won't prepare them for tax. So I was just trying to give another perspective to it since I didn't supplement and found that it prepared me fine!!

Additionally, I was posting from my phone – sorry for the terminology struggled vs struggling!

At the end of the day, all review courses have the same material, since they have to follow the CSO guidelines. Teaching/ lecture styles of some review courses might be different, but that's about it. Its all about how much time you spend on each part. If you pass a part its on you and if you fail its also on you. You can only blame the review courses too an extent.

    @ apbandj

I have previously taken FAR and scored a 74 the first time and 68 the second. I feel like I'm prepared because I got close but not enough to get me over the hump. I'm thinking that 74 could have been one or two questions I guessed incorrectly.

I appreciate all the advice. I do believe that Yaeger, Wiley, and Becker can each be enough- as well as Ninja notes at this point for me.
