    Becker Question –

Anyone have some tips for studying for BEC? For those that passed, what really helped you? I just started watching lectures on Tuesday and the MCQ take a long time to get through. I’ll hopefully finish the lectures/1st HW go around by Tuesday next week.

Some good suggestions here. It's not a study tip per se, but I'll add that you should familiarize yourself with the exam calculator. Looking back, I wish I had done that.

The first 2-3 chapters on Becker are VERY thick/detailed. It can take a very long time to do all the MCQ. My best advice is to listen to the lecture once and try the MCQ. Don't spend 5+ minutes solving a MCQ. If you don't know it, you don't know it! No shame in that. Look at the solution and see why you got it wrong. Mark the question down and redo the question the next day as a review. Did you really understand the question? This helped me truck through the material relatively fast. Spending 5+ minutes a MCQ is NOT efficient! This is why it's practice!

    BEC: 84 (5/13)
    FAR: 91 (7/13)
    REG: 91 (8/13)

Like Wolfchicken said, MULTIPLE CHOICE is the way to go. Chapters 2 and 3 seem VERY tricky but it's just about knowing the simple concepts. Nail those and everything is a breeze from there. If you are using the Becker course, I suggest to review the written communication lecture once and look over the examples provided the day before your exam. Good Luck!

I agree with what everyone else has said– Do as many multiple choice questions as possible. You should be doing literally hundreds.

Also, you will have to memorize all of the equations and ratios. It helped me to write each formula 3-5 times to help memorize it. Saying it out loud to myself helped too.

    1.) MCQ's.

2.) Flashcards to memorize all of the formulas. Do yourself a favor and just memorize them.

3.) Spend extra time on F2-F3 on your first run-through, but don't spend TOO much time. You'll master this information during your review session.

4.) Leave about 2-3 weeks for reviewing.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

Do not leave out chapters with less weight such as Operations Mgmt, Risk Mgmt., etc. I ran out of time to review and of course did not prioritize those areas hoping for the best. Guess what came back as “weaker” in my fail report?

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

I passed BEC with an 80 on the first try and my advice is to work as many MCQs as you can over and over and over. Also, memorization of formulas and nuemonics (spelling?) for all of the lists of information. That helped me on the written communication part. I used the Kaplan book and online test bank. I watched all of the videos and took notes (although I admittedly never went back and reviewed my notes from the videos). Then I read the book and after each section I answered as many MCQs for that section that were available. Then to review I went back and answered only the MCQs I got wrong on the first pass.
