Same exact sim for Becker appear on my real exam…odds of counting vs. protest?

I recently took an exam and a sim from one of the Becker chapters practice appeared on my real exam EXACTLY, word for word. I input my memorized answers (since I looked it over in Becker the night before) before I even finished reading the problem and then went back to check it, and low and behold, exactly the same.

What are the odds of this actually counting vs. being a pretext question? On Becker it said ‘AICPA adapted’ leaning me to believe it was a previously released question. Why would they retest sims they’ve already released? I really hope it counted cause I need those few guaranteed points.

    Anyone have any opinions/insights/theories?

I am sure it can happen … I believe that the released questions eventually get put back into the rotation. That is why they can use practice questions from the 90s.

I am sure that it wasn't pretest, the only purpose of pretest is to get a baseline for the difficulty.

Just chalk it up to luck!

One of my FAR SIMs was almost identical to a Becker SIM.

Not sure if this is true or not but someone recently told me that AICPA committee that creates the exam includes people who have or currently work for Becker.

If true, then that makes perfect sense.

It's a huge selling point for Becker if they can slip an actual exam SIM into their test bank. Everyone will go buy Becker if they know it has actual questions that are still being used.

Wow, that would be awesome to have one guaranteed FAR SIM in the bag, other than the research one. When I took FAR on my first attempt, I was pretty much 100% confident on the research and felt I got maybe 80% right on one other question (and it all went downhill after that).

That would be a huge advantage to have. One thing I've been doing differently this time around is actually doing all the Becker SIMS for FAR. Last time, I just viewed all the lectures and did all the MCQs, and I think doing the SIMS this time around is helping to actually understand the material on a deeper level.

I think I'll try to print out all the SIMS and make sure I know them pretty well. Chances are that the questions will change by the time I take my exam late next month, but wouldn't hurt. Maybe I'll at least have one or two similar ones with very slight modifications.

If you don't pass and are in Dallas, you should try the 8 week live instruction group sessions by Barnett CPA Review, which supplements the national well-known material. Apparently, the instruction and set up is better than Becker's live instruction, and you can receive one-on-one coaching by someone who has passed all 4 parts of the exam in one sitting, has an extensive audit and accounting background available to help you understand and apply the material correctly, and has successfully coached numerous others to pass. I will be there in Feb. and March myself for FAR. There is more information available at https://www.cpareview.vpweb.com. I believe the instructor can coach via skype outside the local group sessions, so you don't have to be in Dallas to receive the one-on-one coaching.

For FAR I felt like the Becker SIMS we're very very different from my real exam. This was for audit. For audit they were very similar, except for the Becker multiple choice-type SIMS.
