Its pretty personal, but I can offer some insight into this since I actually have both programs. I'll spare you the details of how I ended up with Becker, but I will say that I have not used it, and don't plan on using it unless I need something to supplement Roger.
I disliked Becker enough that I instantly started looking for something else. It came down to Roger vs. Yaeger. I made the decision to go with roger after watching any and all sample videos I could find. I found Yaeger to be a bit more difficult to watch. I just bought the roger program and I'm SUPER happy I did. I love the structure, the study planner, etc. I'm trying to cram all sections into one window and having the 3 month study planner is awesome. I am someone that likes to be told what to do and when. I get overly motivated and then overly lazy if I don't have a schedule.
So that being said- Becker vs. Roger.
Becker videos were hard for me to watch- this was the main reason I went looking for another program. It depends on how focused you can stay. I am a bit of a drifter… “Bonds, bonds, bonds… oh look a bird outside my window. Oh the bird is flying to starbucks. I want coffee!”.
The presentation of the becker stuff is such that I zone out quickly. Also there is a lot of “now circle this, highlight this, write this in the books”. I HATE HATE HATE that. Roger has us highlight things sometimes but its not nearly as much as happens in becker. I have issues with that for a number of reason:
1.) if I need to know it I want it to be easily found in the text already. I don't want to write my own textbook. The info is in there but its a bit buried at times.
2.) for MY learning style it doesn't help me- for me its 100% more helpful that Roger spends his time teaching the concepts- once I “get it”, its much easier to memorize the important stuff that goes along with it.
Also I watched both work through some problems and it wasn't nearly as intuitive. Roger uses examples that are stupid but help me get concepts, ie takes it down to a ridiculously basic level. I didn't find that to be true of Becker. The written Becker materials are easy enough to follow, and probably are great for the sections in which you just have to memorize a bunch of stuff.
I do want to say that Becker clearly works great for many people, and from what I can see the material is pretty much the same. Its all about the presentation that works best for you and what you really need. I need to understand the concepts- once it clicks the rest is easy. But some people struggle more with remembering “rules” etc. Roger does use little word tricks to help you remember all the stuff.
Lastly- Roger is about 1/2 the price of Becker. I do think for the cost Becker is too much.
So in short- Roger for the win (for me).
