I am getting ready to start to get serious about passing the CPA exam.

I have used (or should I say purchased since I haven’t ever truly “studied” before …) Becker in the past, but after reading the posts on this forum I am wondering if I should try Roger’s or Yeager instead. I am mostly looking at Roger’s.

Which review did/are you using and why?

    Thanks!

    Cathleen

I used Becker that I borrowed from friend for AUD this month. Taking the exam in 2 hours.

Spent around 3 weeks preparing for it with Becker and was very confused by Tim sometimes.

I can't say for the other sections but for AUD the lecture is not very useful as he simply reads off materials from the book and very occasionally put up some personal experience. My suggestion if you use Becker for AUD is just read the highlighted and annotated book

Just purchased Roger yesterday for the rest of my exams and took a quick glimpse. I have to say for me Roger's teaching methods work better. But I haven't read their book to have a judgment on the quality of study materials and prep questions.

My conclusion is that Becker would still work for the majority of the people but requires much more resilience and patience to go through but Roger can definitely help you study more efficiently if you can't stand a boring teaching method.

I purchased Roger about 8 months ago and I like it! I have never used Becker or Yaeger. Roger's lectures are high energy and he doesn't spend time on small subjects beating them to death, which I like. He's entertaining, which really helped me remember a lot of important concepts on the exam. Also, there are lots of extras on the student login on his website. I use his study planner and I really like that.

I highly recommend Roger's review course.

I have used Yaeger for all four sections. The material that used was all *outdated* stuff with the exception of BEC (when I say outdated, I mean that I used the 2011 Yaeger material for FAR 2013, and 2012 Yaeger stuff for REG and AUD 2013). I did purchase a current year Wiley book to go along with everything.

Of course there are those who will disagree with me, but I have found Yaeger to be excellent for all four sections. Cindy Simpson does all of BEC and most of FAR, and she is great. I skipped a lot of the sections in FAR due to the fact that I already felt comfortable with many of the concepts, but the sections that I did cover with Yaeger were very well done. REG is done by Phil Yaeger; I think the weakest area is the taxation stuff in terms of Phil's presentation, but he is very effective with business law. With that said, I was extremely well prepared for REG.

I just got back from AUD… this is my weakest material, but again I felt well prepared thanks to Gary Bulmash, who covers auditing for Yaeger. He has exceptional knowledge of the material and really knows where to focus attention in terms of what is going to be on the exam. He doesn't spend a lot of time with the Wiley book and I thought this might be an issue at first, but it really isn't… the information that he provides in his lectures along with MC questions and simulations that he works with you is more than sufficient to give you the knowledge to pass.

I haven't tried any other review courses so I am not in a position to comment, but from my experience I would highly recommended Yaeger.

    @interFC1,

Do you know who will teach the new stuff for Aud in yaeger?

I totally agree with you about yaeger products. Not starting a personal string about the product but I am so glad I switched from CPAexcel, I can't stop celebrating ( for Far at least). But so many did well going full product that I can't pass it by. I'm hooked ;-))

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

@tncincy… no idea, but I hope it is still Gary Bulmash. Again, I just took AUD today and I'm sure I made some mistakes and have no idea if I passed or not BUT… Gary definitely prepared me well to take the exam. Let me state that I was quite skeptical when I first started going through the Yaeger AUD lectures because Gary seemed to disregard the book so much and just kind of go off of his handouts and multiple choice questions. However after taking the exam today, I definitely understand his methodology. He's kind of amusing as well… especially when he goes through the MC questions and his comments on the answers such as “that's ridiculous… we're not even talking about that…”

Yaeger seems to have the highest pass rates, but the lectures & course are longer than the others. When I say long, I mean really long, which is why I decided not to use it.

Roger is the least boring teacher, but his course is disorganized. His textbook is structured differently than the Wiley book, which means you'll waste time trying to find the relevant questions to his chapters, & you'll find yourself answering questions he hasn't covered yet.

I think Becker is the best out of all of them in terms of efficiency. It doesn't cover every single detail, but it does cover enough that you can pass with confidence. My only complaint would be the Passmaster software doesn't have as many options as the Wiley Test Bank, but then again, the Wiley testbank has way too many redundant questions that are a waste of time.

Gary teaches the new material for AUD as well.the biggest changes are in Module 5. For this module (I use the online version) I have the option of watching the videos before June 30th and after. I am currently in Module 3 and for Modules 1-3 Gary has been very good about telling you the differences between before and after the changes. I would definitely reccomend Yaeger.

One more thing. The customer service at Yaeger is outstanding!!! Before my FAR exam I spoke with Phil Yaeger himself over the phone (he gave me his personal cell) a number of times. He quizzed me on certain topics just to make sure I was ready, he also wound up giving me FAR cram for free (I think this has around a $300 value..totally unexpected).

I have Roger and Becker. I much prefer Becker. Roger would be fine and is far less expensive. The only reason I have Becker is because my work paid for it.

    FAR - passed, 11/12
    AUD - passed, 5/13

I'm sure Becker is a good program but if you take the price into consideration, I do not think it's worth it (unless you have someone paying for it) Roger seems very energetic and I enjoy his lecture because it's entertaining but a bit too jumpy for me (just a personal preference) Try Yaeger because it is inexpensive compared to other review materials and Cindy Simpson from Yaeger is such an awesome instructor.(a lot of people agree that Cindy is by far the best instructor in CPA review industry ……Gary is cool too).

I called Yaeger to ask a question a few weeks before my first test and a week later I received a package in the mail with the cram course (free) and some pens- plus a super awesome note— wishing me luck and telling me to breathe and to stay calm…PLUS… the 2013 Auditing book which I didn't have yet since I'm still trying to pass BEC and using the 2012 book… they felt the 2013 Auditing book might help… sent it WITHOUT CHARGING ME yet… SUPER AMAZING in that department —

    I highly recommend Roger.

His book is very well written, easy to understand, and at the end of each chapter, he tells you exactly which questions from the Wiley Book (included with the course) correspond with each chapter.

The course is logically organized, and his lectures are quite good. His mnemonics are EXTREMELY helpful. And the Wiley Book + Wiley Online test bank are awesome practice aids.

Overall, I think Roger's course is awesome, and it is reasonably priced. Plus, he often runs sales.
