I’m on my second week of Reg studying and am on R3 in Becker and was wondering what areas you guys suggest I focus on the most? Also how much effort should I put in to memorizing specific phase-outs and deduction percentages and the like? I feel like there’s no way I could ever remember them all!

Thanks for the help and support, you guys have gotten me this far!

Personally, I had the most trouble with tax as its not my strong suite and I floated by my two tax classes in school. Law I already felt very comfortable with going in so I just watched the lecture, worked the questions and had no problem.

When it comes to tax, as said by Becker, the exam really doesn't focus on most of the phase outs as they are indexed every year for inflation. The test really hits mostly on concepts and rules. Becker does a good job of highlighting which percentages you should pay attention to, and what thresholds to know. For example, the casualty $100 deduction and 10% AGI limit is a big one, along with the Mom & Pop Rule and corresponding phase out. If its mentioned in a lecture, know it. Honestly, they could really throw anything at you, so stick to what Becker focuses on, but make sure you read through EVERYTHING closely. REG is really full of many small detailed rules, so just learn them your best, and keep working the MC questions. Also, work all the simulation questions as they will often go into more detail than is in the textbook/lectures, and will help you to identify weak areas.

Keep working, stay focused, continuously do progress tests to keep all the rules in your head, make some flash cards for weak areas, and you'll nail it.
