I’m a little worried, and my exam date is this Sunday. I have read the posts on the Reg Exam experience and am getting concerned – to put it mildly. Although, I am quite pleased to see that many of you have passed!! (Yeah for the Killers of REG!!) I have been doing exams in Wiely and in Becker – I average between 80 and 90 – but I have seen these questions before. If I focus on the sims – the evil component stated by everyone – should I focus more on Wiley than Becker? I’m using Becker 2012 and have adapted the answers to the 2013 amounts. But I know Becker – very well. I made a 71 on my first REG, then a 74 on my second and I WANT to pass. I don’t know the Wiley sims that well. Any advice? I just want to be DONE!!

@ heidi-o… I have noticed that wiley sims and becker sims has some overlap so if you do all of wiley you'll see a repeat in becker. I am taking my test tom and Im so scared of SIMS, feel like i have a decent shot at the MCQ but SIMS require a more deeper understanding of the material which worries me. Though I cant talk from experience since I never took REG, If for your past 2 fails you were weaker in SIMS i think you should focus on going over your notes/material to make sure you understand the whole picture and do SIMs in the areas that you are weaker.

Heidi-O: I can only speak about Becker since I have not used Wiley. Two of my sims were very similar in format to what I had seen in Becker. I got 2 research questions which worked against me because I had trouble finding one of them and it was probably the one that counted. One sim was a format I had not seen before but a topic that was covered very well in Becker. And then there was one on something I was familiar with but had not practiced enough. I had sort of counted on not getting a sim on it, my own fault. As you can see I still made a great score and I am not complaining. I know there are many on this board who use a variety of study materials. I was always afraid to muddy the waters with trying to study too many different ways of doing things. So far Becker has been good to me. Your test is Sunday I would stick to the material you are comfortable with and just keep reviewing it. That's just my opinion.

CPAwanabe and MMP3 Thank you for your input. My first fail (a 71) I was weaker in sims but very strong in m/c. My second exam (74) I was stronger in sims but weaker in m/c as I was scared to take the exam (literally shaking). It's probably all mental at this point. I should just continue with what I am doing and move forward with a positive attitude. Thank you for your input. 🙂

heidi-o – Im not sure but are the sims available in the released questions from the aicpa?

I had a SIM that looked exactly like one from the 2013 AICPA released question but with different numbers

Sims are in the released questions and I have the 2013 released questions. Oddly, it's easier for me to do the sims when they are in paper in front of me than on the screen. All I have to do is look at the question and then look at the printed sim – on screen, I tend to write everything out on that little board they give you.

Thanks for your help guys!! Off to the sims!!! 🙂

HAHA! Just wanted to mention I too have REG left and have failed 2x with a 71 & 74. Odd. I did poorly on the SIMs both times though.
