    Becker Question –

    Just a quick rant…

I hate the fact that they put only 2 topics per chapter. The lectures are 1.5 – 2 hours long and it makes it really hard to stay focused, especially on the same boring cost accounting subject. Then, the MCQ testlet for the material is 135 questions each! I see that and dont even want to do them. Thats almost double the amount of questions on the entire BEC exam itself.

I’m finding it tough to stay focused because I cant really take breaks in between the materials without stopping randomly. Much preferred FARs setup of 5-6 topics per chapter at like 20-30 mins and then a moderate amount of MCQ testlets.

    Almost feel better now 🙂

Completely agree with everything you wrote. I can't focus on BEC, and the setup is part of the problem. I'm still on the 2nd set of questions in Chapter 2. I planned on being through at least Chapter 4 by this point. Right now, I'm on question 72 of 132 for budgeting and analysis. It's really daunting looking at these long-ass problems. Really, Becker? I've taken the other 3 exams and never seen full-page questions that take 10 minutes to read.

Also, my exam is in 2.5 weeks. WTF?

It gets wayyyy better once you get past chapter 3 then the rest of the book doesnt have much MCQs. The problem is that most of the challenging parts of the exam are in chapters 1-3 that Becker needs to show you every way you could be tested on a problem and how the formulas work. Even though i thought BEC was the easiest test to take it was the hardest one so far to study for… the material is soo dry

    FAR - 88 (Jul 2012)
    AUD - 85 (Oct 2012)
    BEC - 82 (Nov 2012)
    REG - 92 (Jan 2013) DONE!

Ugh, I was literally coming here to post the SAME exact thing! I hate BEC :/ I'm just starting the BEC 3 lecture and thought I'd be finishing 4 by now. Test is 1/4 and I'm worrying about getting through it all – it's just super boring and I can't focus.

    AUD (5/25/2012): 91

Thanks for your insight. Do you really consider BEC easier than AUD? All my questions on AUD were 1 or 2 lines, and I had virtually no calculations. I finished AUD with an hour to spare, but I probably could've finished it with 2 hours left over. As I'm slowly completing these BEC questions, I can't picture this test being easier than AUD.

Were Becker's BEC problems comparable to what you saw on the test, or were the actual test questions 1 or 2 lines with easy calculations?

We're both one exam away from becoming CPAs!! Well, I still need to finish the work experience portion, but hopefully sometime next year! Also, does every state require an ethics exam? I haven't heard anything from my state board about this…

I don't think every state requires it – I'm in Illinois and they do require it but it's really easy and done online at home. I have the work experience and started looking at the IL application for license today trying to get ready to be done and over with this whole journey!

We seem to be on a pretty similar schedule except I had a longer period between my 1st and 2nd test because I get very busy at work in August-October and want a bunch of time for FAR due to pure volume of material!

Hopefully we will both be getting good news in January 🙂

It definitely gets better after Chapter 3, as @mrwillis12 said. However, Becker makes overhead variances way more complicated than they need to be in Chapter 5 (I used 2011, not sure which year everyone else is using).

@FearTheBeard, I personally had a much easier time with the BEC exam than I did with AUD. In fact, I actually walked out feeling confident and the results were consistent with that feeling. Studying for AUD felt a lot easier, but I had a more difficult time with the exam, especially the simulations.

In terms of Becker vs. the actual exam, as was the case with FAR, I thought the exam questions were a lot more straightforward and shorter than what you see in the Becker. Seeing your scores on the rest of the exams, I wouldn't worry about BEC. Unlike AUD though, you will probably use up all of the allotted time because of the calculations.

    FAR - 81 (07/24/2012)
    BEC - 92 (10/06/2012)
    AUD - 92 (11/29/2012)
    REG - 88 (02/28/2013)

    Ethics - 90

At least some of you are struggling with the setup too.

I just feel very unproductive, with FAR I could sit down and do an entire chapter lecture, McQ and sims in 1 day. Ive barely done 2 chapters of BEC this whole week.

I'm using the 2013 Becker materials for BEC. I guess BEC can be easier than AUD because there are no SIMS and 85% of the grade is based on MCQs. Since the writing portion is only 15%, I'm only allocating 15% of the 3 hours (~30 minutes) to it so I can really nail the MCQs. It's good to know that the exam is more straightforward. Based on all of our scores, I guess it's safe to say that Becker over prepares us. Thanks for your help.

We WILL get good news, but I think it'll be in February, unless the AICPA decides to speed up their score release process for the first few days of a testing window. But I'm guessing they won't 🙁

I am having trouble focusing on this cost accounting stuff. it's hella boring compared to tax.
