Hey guys, I have a question regarding R4 of the Becker review. If someone hasn’t used Becker, they aren’t going to be able to help too much, but I appreciate the effort if you try 🙂

Anyways, the review is about 92 pages long, but once we hit page 43, they FLY through the next 50 pages. The 50 pages encompass Ethics and the Legislative process of tax. I was wondering, is it worth knowing in detail these pages, or can I really just focus on what the instructor highlights? Sometimes he focuses on a couple items per page, sometimes only on one.

With the other sections, I was able to focus on everything without a problem. These 50 pages, however, are very long and pretty much amount to a new section altogether.

Anyways, any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I totally felt your pain when I sat through fastpass and watched Tim Gearty flying through those 50 pages. But if you look at the beginning of the book where it breaks down the scoring for each topic, you would realize that up to 19% of your exam can come from tax ethics and CPA legal liability while business law only comprises up to 21% of your reg exam. I just think by dedicating four chapters to business law, Becker makes us think that business law is substantially more important than ethics. If you do spend time to read through those 50 pages, you would realize those are easy points to get on the reg exam just because they can't ask you anything difficult from there. Once you have learned what reliance opinions are, what is the difference between more likely than not and substantial authority, you can easily ace those questions.

Most people will tell you that Ethics is tested surprisingly heavily. I know how daunting those million pages that don't have accompanying lecture are, but read them once, and then focus on actually STUDYING the questions that the Becker Passmaster asks from it. That had me mostly covered for the exam 🙂

    Thanks.

Most of it isn't difficult; I was just surprised at the amount of pages that were barely even mentioned.

Ethics is tested in REG, but on a broad level. I would say do the HW questions a couple times and you will be in good shape.

    REG - 79
    FAR - 81
    BEC - 84
    Aud - 85

    I'm a CPA!
