Hey so I’m on my third test, BEC and believe I have this whole process down. However, I was wondering for those who used Becker how did you review for BEC? B5 seems like the toughest section so far so did you start your review process there or just back on B1?

    Thanks!

    FAR - 79!
    AUD - 79!
    BEC - 5/30/12
    REG - ?

Start at B1 and hit on your weak areas. I found B5 to be one of the easiest chapters. I hated B3. It's different for everyone. There were a few things that I just could not grasp, so I gave up, but I figured they weren't major areas. And they weren't. It worked out for me.

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82
    FAR: (1/2013) 78 πŸ™‚

Interesting. B1 seems so easy because I just took AUD so I know a lot of the internal control stuff. I guess everyone is different. I know for sure I won't be watching that terrible IT lecture or Econ. lecture haha

I found B2 the toughest section among all. Doesn't get clear knowledge on few topics. For me B5 and B6 are the easiest topic. Currently going through all MCQ's and SIMS.

Economics (B2) took me some time. I do recommend getting the finance down (B3) and cost accounting down (B5) because you will be more proficient when the long, wordy finance and cost accounting calculation problems come up.

I also recommend the AICPA tests (go online and work every year you can find). CPA-Review-for-Free has some great finance and cost accounting problems.

I used Becker 2011 edition and I go in the order of the chapters, but I always spend an extra day on chapter 5 because it was the most difficult for me. I don't want to underestimate any of the chapters, but I find that Chapter 5 is the most difficult so I give myself an extra day to work the problems that I keep getting wrong.

Yeah, for Becker 2012, the chapters are B1 (COSO, Intro to Cost), B2 (Cost Accounting, Budgeting etc), B3 (Finance), B4 (IT), B5 (Economics), B6 (Risk and Miscellaneous)…B2 was definitely a brute for me, especially considering the calculations can take you roughly 3-8 minutes per question and there are about 200 MCQ for that section.

I did not watch the IT lecture, but I did read the B4 chapter, took good notes and highlighted. I will let you know in a week if I regret not watching the lecture.

I'm finding the material muuch harder than REG or AUD!!!

    @marks

i'm on the same boat. BEC is so hard for me to understand.Even the terminology is foreign to me. I take it in two weeks…and I know i'm not ready, but going to cram these next two weeks and pray that something sticks. Best of luck to you πŸ™‚

I think we should get on the same page as to what year Becker BEC everyone is using. From what im gathering 2011 and 2012 are different? I think B2 and B3 are time consuming and difficult. B4 is straight memorization. B5 is econ which you might need a refresher since college. B1 (for me) is easy because I just took audit. B6 is more memorization. But B2 and B3 are the hard ones. Also dont forget the writing part!

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

    Audit 4/19/12 - 77
    BEC 5/31/12 - 75
    FAR 8/30/12

Yes Becker 2011 and 2012 are different. 2011: B1 – Corp Governance & oper mgmt, B2 – Economics, B3 – Financial mgmt, B4 – IT, B5 – Strategic Planning. I'm using the 2011 and I think Becker did a poor job in the material as compared to the other exam sections. Which really freaks me out as I'm not feeling prepared whatsoever! There's a LOT of ancillary material which I think warrants them covering in the lectures. Sometimes just hearing the information, helps.

    Best of luck!

@lmpcpa most of the stuff that was ancillary in 2011ed, and part of study material in 2012..dont skip those stuff.

@shay – yeah i know. Just really feel they should have covered more of it in the lectures than “on your own” reading. And the guy that covers B2 and B4 is horrible. That doesn't help either.

One day at a time, i guess and hope for the best come exam day!
