Problems with Wiley Multiple Choice Questions After Doing Becker - Page 3

I am a little nervous after loading up my 2011 Wiley test bank for FAR. I was feeling really confident for FAR after getting a good grasp of Becker’s multiple choice questions. So I decided to begin overkill and started to do WIley multiple choice questions.

An hour later I am all flustered with anxiety because I was getting less than half right. I have 9 days to finish my FAR studying and now I am nervous that Wiley and Becker problems are so foreign from each other. Any recommendations or insights from people who used both programs? I think I am going to spend the rest of my nine days on the Wiley test bank.

I also am concerned that I am missing the analytical skills to figure out new problems that I have not seen:(

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I had the same experience going from Becker to Wiley. However, just keep pushing through the questions to understand why you're getting them wrong. I definitely find the Wiley questions to be more complicated and I get a lot more of them wrong, but I'm hoping that seeing more and different topics (even if I get them wrong in the software) will give me more exposure and get me prepared for the exam. Sometimes writing down why they are wrong can be really useful to help it stick!

@lindrobe do what ever has been working for you. you'll see what i'm talking about while going through that one section. just take those questions with a grain of salt. I had confidence that becker was preparing me well enough on its own and decided rather than confuse myself and complicate things to stick with becker all the way through.

    FAR - 7/1/13 - 98
    AUD - 8/31/13 - 94
    BEC - 11/23/13 - 89
    REG - 1/13/14 - 86

Monk, the first time I passed FAR I only used Becker and got an 80%. I think Becker has enough questions and simulation to keep you busy without supplementing with Wiley test bank. This time around I will use the Ninja notes for final review to see how good those notes are. Have you taken Becker’s final exam yet? If so, what did you get? The first time I passed FAR, I got a 77 on both of the final tests.

@CR7 I have not took the Becker test yet. I score over 80 percent on the homework questions and have not done all of the optional questions. The title “optional questions” scared me off because I am not sue if the questions are optional because they go deeper into questions than you need to go or because they cover subjects that are not covered much. Why are they optional? I thought Wiley might have non optional questions:) First time you passed FAR? How many times have you passed it?

@NYIACCT89 Its good to know you can get high scores using just Becker however Wiley has pulled me in and I think I am going to play around with it. I think my weakness is critical thinking and I feel like I need to work questions I am not familiar with to hopefully learn how to process this information better. I made the rookie mistake of over studying the book and now that I am focusing on the questions I can feel all that book learning melt away.

Because the final questions are written by AICPA and not by Becker, Wiley, FFA, etc., I think that if you have the opportunity to do problems from more than one source, that's a great thing! Being able to answer Becker questions well won't mean you can pass the test…and by the same token, being able to answer any other company's questions well won't mean you can pass the test. Being able to understand the question regardless of who wrote it will, however, be very useful on the test. So since Becker and Wiley seem to write them in vastly different ways, I'd say that being able to handle both is a great skill to be working on. (Though it seems like Wiley puts a focus on using old AICPA questions, so I still felt comfortable using just WTB…never felt like the exam questions were that much different.)

The night I opened this post I did about 20 questions and got like 5 right. It freaked me out a little bit and I stopped studying and wrote this post.

I spent all yesterday with Wiley and ironically enough I actually now would consider the questions easier than Becker. The governmental questions definitely were. 1 in 20 Wiley questions is a topic that Becker didn't cover but it doesn't bother me anymore since I flag it and take a few minutes to learn it.

Yesterday I actually scored over 90 percent on some topics and probably averaged about 70-75 percent on others. It was funny that one of the sections with questions that freaked me out was the equity section. After getting 3 of the first 10 right the night before I ended up getting about 80 percent right the day after on new questions.

I am planning to get through all the Wiley questions in the next 4 days and then spend my last 4 days on flagged questions from both Becker and Wiley. I also need to squeeze in some hours to practice journal entries since I haven't done accounting in over 6 years.

A lot of the questions wrong right now are do to rushing through questions and reading comprehension issues. I hope when I take the exam I focus better and not worse.

A lot of the ones I would get wrong were due to rushing, too. I'd always be like “Darn it, if I'd have RTFQ, I would've known that…”

Glad that your scores have improved so well, and hopefully some of those extra topics that you're reviewing will help you out on exam day! 🙂
