Sweet Moses. I just studied B3 in Becker and got slammed on some of the Weighted Average Cost of Capital stuff along with the other topics in that section. I studied for 6 hours on like 40 pages only to receive a 60% on the MCQs on my first time through. I’m assuming Becker is “over-preparing” which I like, but would love confirmation from somebody, ANYBODY!

Actually I thought it was a lot harder on the exam. Sorry that's probably not what you want to hear! It could depend on the test you get, though. I just didn't get a test that really resembled anything Becker prepared me for 🙁

    Aud 4/2/11 - 86
    Far 5/27/11 - 83
    Bec 7/1/11 - 82
    Reg 8/13/11 - 86! It's over!!!!

Well, let's be realistic, all the topics are fair game… I failed BEC the first time I took it and used Becker to prepare for it, I found that my first exam felt completely alien compared with the other three parts (AUD, FAR, REG). The second time around I scoffed at how much easier it was, very straight forward. So hope that you get an exam similar to my second battle with BEC, rather than getting something completely weird the first time around :). I think what also helped me the second time around the most was making flashcards over the various topics and memorizing everything from formulas to random theory/definition garbage. If you don't pass it the first time, don't sweat it, you'll get it at some point, just DON'T GIVE UP! Anyway, good luck!

For the B3 math intensive problems, the first time around I let myself use the formulas like you would do HW in school, so that I could get a feel for them and the questions. I marked all of the ones I used notes on, and am now going back and re-working them without the formulas. For me, at least, that helps it to become a little more manageable.

Also, after B3, B4 is a breeze! Some of the stuff is goofy and antiquated, but as long as you read through the text you should be fine on the MCQ. How kind of Becker to give us a mini-break in between the two most miserable topics! 😛 (I hear B5 is terrible — I'll let you know once I've gotten through it!)

    REG -- October 3!!

My experience with BEC…and who knows, there could be a lot to do with the “luck” factor as to which questions you receive…

….that said, many of the questions on the BEC exam seemed exponentially more difficult than those found in either the Becker or the Gleim review books.

I'm to the point where I can teach the BEC course…almost word-for-word, and explain ANY question in the Becker review materials to anyone – even those entirely unfamiliar with accounting as I know the formulas and stuff forwards and backwards.

I'd study the “stuff”, then spend time trying to figure out the questions at the end of the chapters and in the faux tests as if a piece of material or a number were missing, as if you had to “back into” a number here or there – and then…after you've tried to figure out every variation of the problem you can imagine – expect if that question appeared on the exam, it would be missing another figure or tidbit you'd never thought of.

Just say'n. This section of the test “should” have been the easiest for me with degrees in Information Systems, Business Administration and Accounting as well as working in management within a couple fortune 500 companies…but alas, it was a bit of a nemesis to me.

    Magic,

You also have one of the best BEC formula spreadsheets around!
