Did anyone out there pass without reading the Becker book? Just did lectures and questions? There are some chapters where I get 80s on the MC without reading the chapter yet. Should I still waste time reading the chapter?

    AUD 73, 88
    FAR - 70, 71, 85!! Done! Thank you Lord!
    BEC - 77
    REG - 75

I notice that I do not retain the information in full without reading the chapter. Reading the chapter provides far more details and understanding than just watching lectures. if you can do all the questions, including Supplemental with 80 plus first time.. then maybe you already know the information well enough… your call. Exclude questions were you completely guessed and still got correct.

I would think it depends on the exam. I have finish AUD and currently am working on FAR. I feel with AUD it may be possible because I felt you only needed to get a general understanding of the concepts, and you can kind of work your way through the questions (just make sure you do EVERY homework question).

I haven't taken FAR yet, but I feel reading is necessary because there is so much detail that you really need to understand fully because every other question seems to be like a trick question, where they throw some curve ball at you.

As my friend who passed all 4 on the first shot always tells me, never cut corners studying for the CPA exam.

Though I would say if you are absolutely pressed for time and know that you NEED to cut something out in order to finish the material, I would say reading may be the least important out of homework (most important) and lectures.

I would say not to cut corners and read the book. Yes it sucks usually to sit down and read if you think you already know the materials, but you never know where questions may arise from. The lectures are good, but gloss over whole sections sometimes, you don't want to get to the exam and say shit I remember seeing that on a page somewhere but they skipped it or I've never seen that before and yes those concepts may only be on there for 1-3 questions but a handful of those add up very quickly. Those are usually the “easy” points as well, and you don't want to give those up…. Best of luck!
