Becker Question –

Just curious what you guys think is the most difficult chapter I am on chapter 2 and already getting frustrated when working on the multiple choice questions

8 and 9 were by far the hardest for me and the other people I know who have gone through Becker as well. It's a ton of theory, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but over topics that I had never seen before: Governmental and Not-For-Profit Accounting.

Hang in there though. The MC questions are designed to be a royal pain and F2 questions especially sucked if I remember correctly.

I'm literally not even trying the MCQ until I get through all the lectures and take the notes down. I tried but it was taking too long to move through. Tim Gearrity is having me take notes and highlite while he is talking and I cant keep up with those 1.5 hour lectures and focus on it for that long. I'm trying to retain a little bit from each lecture for when I do start to review and do the homework. We'll see how that works

Is the hard part the first 20 pages from chapter 2 (ie amortization/goodwill/ all that crap)….. or does it get even harder after this>

Honestly, I think all the chapters in FAR were hard, but I think chapters 8-9 were the hardest because all the different accounting rules for non-for-profits and governments, which is tested heavy. Accounting for Pension Plans is hard as well. Good luck.

all of F2 is tricky because it's a lot of topics rolled into 1 chapter.

You've got R&D and intangible stuff.

I found the F2 non-monetary exchange stuff tricky (commercial substance or not? was there boot rec'd? etc)

I also found the F2 forex stuff tricky with functional/disfunctional currencies and translation (goes to OCI) v. remeasurement (adjustment on income statement)

Also, the installment method & cost recovery stuff is tricky.

the bottom line is F2 is a lot of misc topics rolled up into a chapter. Once you get through F2, most of the other chapters cover only 1-2 MAJOR topics. The other chapters are still very tough for the most part but the difference will be they don't cover a lot of relatively minor misc topics

i'm on ch 3 right now. Chapter 2 was really hard I thought. So far I'm finding chapter 3 slightly easier. Chapter 1 was not bad at all.

This week I found out that I got an 80 on FAR (THANK you Tim Gearity!!!).  It replaces my 71 I got last October.
FAR is such a beast.
 
Chapters 8 and 9 were wierd because practically nobody teaches gov't accounting in school.

None of the chapters are ‘easy' but I found Consolidations in chapter 3 to be very, very involved, detail intensive and difficult.  I mastered the material but of course had no MCQ on the exam.  That's how it works, right?

Also, Leases, Liabilities and Bonds (Chapter 5) is also very detailed.  Fairly difficult but do-able.

My sims on the exam weren't bad.

F2 was the hardest for me, so many details, plus I don't like the topics on F2 either.

My favorite one was bonds and pensions : D
