Coming into studying for the CPA, I heard Becker was the best and although it was a little costly, it was well worth it. But coming from my own experience, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Definitely Becker is useful and I like the format of it and all but it just never seems up to date. Even now, they are still using 7.5% for medical expense instead of the new 10%. If I hadn’t been on here, I wouldn’t have caught that and would probably miss points on the exam.

I used becker for a year back in 2008-2009 for FAR (2x) and REG, and was 0/3 in exam passes. That probably means I just didn't study hard enough though, so I won't be quick to dog on Becker because it seems HIGHLY effective for many candidates.

I will say however that I think it's grosssssly overpriced. In my opinion, Becker is good if you need help staying focused on your studies, like a hand to hold through lectures/chapters, and have trouble FORCING yourself to study on your own. However, if you DO have decent study skills, or are fresh out of school and don't mind hours a week in a quiet place pounding out MCQs, some “less fun” study materials (like Wiley text books and the test bank) are soooo much cheaper. I think Becker cuts to the chase and is a more “fun”/interactive mode with its materials, but it comes with a big pricetag.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

One of the accounting classes in my master's program used the Gleim FAR book. It was horribly dry and the idea of spending months cuddled up with that set sounded horrible and intimidating. I can remember feeling overwhelmed by the number of study sets available and wondering which would be best to pass the exams. I haven't seen the Wiley or Yeager books, but cheesy Becker videos with promises to pass helped me in the beginning of my journey when I needed structure.

I'm glad there are sites out there like this one that offer guidance on other study sets because I had no idea there were so many options.
