Coming into studying for the CPA, I heard Becker was the best and although it was a little costly, it was well worth it. But coming from my own experience, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Definitely Becker is useful and I like the format of it and all but it just never seems up to date. Even now, they are still using 7.5% for medical expense instead of the new 10%. If I hadn’t been on here, I wouldn’t have caught that and would probably miss points on the exam.

I personally like Becker because its well-organized structure. However, for someone wants to get 90s and above not just to pass(sounds crazy, right?), Becker itself is not enough. For me, I used Becker and Gleim, and pass 4 papers on first try within 4 months. My matter was to highlight whatever I thought was important, not just blindly followed the instructors, and also took my own notes. My scores are kind of average (range from 81 to 87), but who cares. The matter of fact is I passed!

I did not like Becker. When I first tried Becker (several years ago), I wasn't able to pass…After “giving up” for a year or two, I was introduced to Wiley from a friend. Used Wiley and passed all four parts…and now a CPA!

I didn't find Becker useful because:

    1) I almost had to highlight and circle every other word.

    2) Its expensive!!!

@Phebegg That is not correct. I have only used Becker and have gotten a 96 on FAR, 98 on REG, and 94 on BEC. Becker is more than sufficient. Needless to say, I have been satisfied with their material.

I'm using Becker and I really despise how they make you highlight and circle everything. Just doesn't seem like a great way to learn.

I can second what barelystayingsane says. I've gotten a 98 on FAR and 94 on AUD using Becker and nothing else.

In my opinion, if you do everything required by Becker to meet the Becker Promise you will be more than prepared for each exam.

    FAR - 7/1/13 - 98
    AUD - 8/31/13 - 94
    BEC - 11/23/13 - 89
    REG - 1/13/14 - 86

@NYIACCT, how many weeks did you give yourself for FAR? and were you working during that time? I'm aiming for 1-2 (depending on the week) lessons per week, but am nervous that just starting now I won't be able to sufficiently get through everything in time for my test on 11/23. Thanks!

I see the highlighting as a small part of the learning and I find it useful, during the week I may open the book and spend 10 minutes just going over the highlighted important parts and during final review I make sure to re-read all the highlighted parts if I can't re-read the whole chapter. I find it has helps with preparing the notes. In FAR/REG there were a few chapters that I didn't want to listen to, so I just opened the ebook and use that to highlight what Becker deemed important.

Becker, Wiley Test Bank, and Ninja 10 Point Combo!

    FAR: 89
    REG: 87
    AUD: 92
    BEC: 75
    Ethics: 90

@oilgaslb I spent 8 weeks studying for FAR – 5 for the lectures and 3 for review. I did this while working full time. You have plenty of time if you start now while working. Towards the end I started feeling like I my review may have been too long.

Just make sure you adhere to the schedule you set out for yourself, and do progress tests every week to keep all of the chapters fresh in your head. Good luck!
