    Hi,

I am wondering if there is anyone who has used other review courses and then switched to Becker CPA Review and passed? This exam is starting to take its toll on me as I failed BEC for the 5th time this score release. I am beginning to think it is time for a change. I know a lot of firms have a discount with Becker so that is why many people go with Becker. The price tag is high on Becker but where I have spent so much money on review materials I qualify to get in 50% off. I am just trying to decide if this is the right decision. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am really curious as to those who converted to Becker.

    Thanks so much everyone!

rmm91909, I've been following your forum posts and blog as well. I was really hoping you would pass this time… So sorry it didn't work out.

I pretty much agree with what most people say that it all depends on your study habits. Although you might think your approach should help you pass and, in fact, you are not getting there using this approach, perhaps you might need to implement some changes.

I used Becker, supplemented a bit with Willey (just did random sets of questions, not all of them) and reviewed Jeff's notes during my final review. I know my score isn't perfect because I performed weaker on WC due to time constrains and some other reasons (including my horrible morning sickness at that time), but I did nail the MC section, performed stronger in 4 areas out of 6 and stronger on MC overall. Honestly I think Becker did a very good job preparing me for the exam, exam questions didn't surprise me.

I wish I could help some how.

    AUD - 11/23/2011 - 84
    FAR - 02/22/2012 - 76 (I'll take it!)

Thanks iPass I really appreciate your support! I am going to sit down with my stepmom today and go over my approach for this exam. I know that sounds funny but she is a very successful person and usually has some sound advice to give me even if it isn't what I want to hear. Congrats on the little one! I can only imagine that you are so tired as that is what I always hear from my girlfriends. So good for you studying so hard! Good motivation to get the exam done too 🙂

I passed all four with Becker. I agree your study habits are important, but something much more important (i feel) your knowledge retention.

I started with FAR and spent too much time doing the wrong things (my fault not Beckers). Remember, no study course will have the exact questions on the exam. I feel Becker is very thorough. Jeffs ninja PLANNER combined with a review course is a great approach. What helps you retain the knowledge will help you succeed. I'm bias to Becker, but if you're looking for a new review course…try “demo-ing” to see if it fits you.I wish you the best…

I would say yes. I am using Becker and have passed both BEC and FAR on my first try, 86 and 84. No matter what review course you use, it will take a lot of prep. I can't really speak on the other courses, but Becker goes into serious detail. Sometimes more than is necessary, which is good when you get to the exam which seems simple or very similar compared to a lot of the homework questions. Considering you have taken BEC 5 times, it seems like you have spent a lot of extra money on retaking exams than you ever would on a review course. Think of it this way, if taking Becker (a fairly expensive course I'm assuming otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned cost) prevents one retake for each of your exams, AND you get 1/2 off the materials, then you come out way ahead. Good luck!

Yes, haven't failed yet. I would rather pay upfront than have to pay for retakes and waste more time studying.

I was lucky enough to get Becker on a full scholarship. It didn't steer my wrong for FAR or AUD, but I am feeling very uneasy with 9 days to go until my BEC exam–so much so that I am supplementing Becker with Roger, the Wiley testbank, AND cpareviewforfree.

I think, as others have pointed out, that it depends on your learning style. Personally I have found that the sections Becker does badly are covered nicely by Roger, as he actually works through and teaches the material rather than just telling you “underline this” or “highlight that.” I used to be a big Peter Olinto fan, but after having him for 3 of the 5 BEC lectures, I think he's more suited to entertainment than he is to teaching a review course. I would rather have someone who can help me make the material stick than someone that can make me chuckle every once in a while. What's great about Roger is he does both.

I know it might sound like a bit of a Roger sales pitch, but it's really just my honest evaluation. Don't rule out the possibility that you may need a different review course for each part.

for me, becker has been worth it since ive passed 3 so far on my first try. i would rather spend the money and pass the tests on the first try than paying exam fees over and over again. i think you can buy becker by the section, but its worked so far for me. i would recommend it.
