I just graduated in December with dual degree (Accounting and Management) and have my 150 credit hours. I applied to sit for the exam and now i am looking for courses to take.

I am trying to figure out if Becker is worth it because i have to pay it with my own money. Right now i have 25k a year job which deals a bit with accounting and i love it but clearly it doesnt pay much. I am trying to decide if its worth paying top dollar 3360 for becker. I would have to finance it so the payments would be 190 a month. I can afford it but again thats a lot of money considering how much i make now so i was wondering if there is another program that is cheaper but as good as Becker.

My main goal is to pass the exam which is why i am staying at this job and not looking to work for big 4. I dont think i could pass it working 50-60 hrs at big 4. Also i love my current job and i will try and stay here if i can once i pass my CPA exam.

Do you guys have any advice? Do you think i should just try to get into big 4 since they will give me free Becker. I know its very hard to pass CPA exam while working for the big 4.

FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

In my opinion, Becker is worth the extra cost. There's a reason they are able to charge the amount of money that they are charging. If it wasn't an effective review course they couldn't justify charging $3,360. I wasn't very good at accounting in college so I figured I'd take a shot using Becker. Maybe people who understand accounting very well can get by with a different review course. Unfortunately I had to fork up the $$ myself but so far it's been worth it and if I end up passing it will pay for itself in no time.

I have tattoos of Olinto and Gearty and bleed highlighter yellow but I could not recommend someone making $25K per year spend $3300 on it. But, I guess that depends on how much of that is disposable income.

I would try one section with Wiley and if it works, stick with it.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker

The way I see it buying Becker is totally worth the investment. I think Becker maximizes your chance of passing(that is assuming you study hard) and it can save you time.

I passed FAR 80%- 3 Month, REG 80%-3 Months and Audit 74%-3Months using Becker, I loss all my credits, and Now Im back with Becker. I dont think they are very good for Audit,so this time I will have to use something else for that part. I heard that the best prep course for Audit is Roger CPA.

Those that are recommending it – did you pay full price for your course?

I only pay 1K using the Becker promise. I never sent the HW to qualify for the Becker promise, but I bothered them so much that I ended up getting it.

I know your not talking to me Jeff, but i paid the $3500 like 5 years ago and the half price “deal” for returning customers of $1500. Becker is worth it at $1500 for returning users and its actual value is probably $2000 to throw a number out of my as*. Their software is the most flashy of the cpa programs and I like how the homework questions build off each other. Some of the lectures are ok and others are a waste of time. As a general rule if the pages they are covering on the lecture don't have computational example the lectures aren't worth watching. I don't know to much about the Wiley 2014 test bank but found that the Wiley 2011 didn't have as many questions as Becker. I felt that each question in Wiley was to unique so I didn't feel my knowledge building as I did questions. Instead Wiley test bank was like a roller coaster with ups and downs and crazy turns. That might be a good thing.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

SInce you are just starting your CPA exam journey and don't want to or can't afford the full course right now, you could always start with just one part. Just a thought.

When I decided to start sitting for my CPA, I did buy the full course but it was as at a former student discount. I saw buying all four parts at one time as a committment to passsing the exam. I also bought each Becker final review which was not at a discount. I spent thousands in review materials and test fees. I took the exam 13 times over two and one half years and yes I did have Becker sections(not exam credits) to expire but I peservered and now have those three precious letters that I can use after my name.

On a couple of occasions when my Becker had expired and I was within a short time frame of sitting for an exam part, Becker extended the license. All I had to show them that I had a scheduled test date with Prometric.

Do you have personal friends or coworkers that have used Becker and or other review courses? Maybe check with them to get some feedback.

I supplemented my FAR study with the NINJA notes and audio which was also very helpful!! I took FAR three times. I remember I had a full blown simulation on a topic that was covered in the NINJA notes that I had not seen in Becker.

    Good luck with your journey!!!
