Is Becker too heavy on BLaw for Reg??

I am having such a difficult time organizing my studying because of this. According to the breakdown, business law is less than a 1/3 of the exam weight, yet it is half of the Reg study material in Becker? It just doesnt make sense.

I have found myself laboring over this when I know that tax makes up a much bigger share of the exam, according to the AICPA. Also, did anyone find that they completely ignored topics that it says are fairly heavy on the exam?

If someone could please shed some light/perspective on this for me it woould greatly help me to budget my time.

I take REG on Saturday the 12th, and I can tell you that I've decided to devote the majority of my remaining study time to TAX and not Law. I paid attention to the lectures and re-did ALL of the law MC's, but other than that, I think i'm going to leave it alone. From the looks of things on this board, the tax stuff is MUCH more heavily tested on the actual exam. Also, if you take Becker's REG Final Exam, you'll also see WAY more tax stuff than law stuff.

Long story short…I agree with you, so I am focusing significantly more time in tax….also, just thinking practically here, I have a much better chance of weaseling my way into a correct guess on a law question than I do on some uber-specific tax question.

Have you taken the becker final yet?

Thanks sometimes it helps to get reassured that you are thinking correctly.

i havent taken the final yet. I have R7 left to complete tommorow but I am just trying to get an idea of how to spend my time for the final review. I take the test on Feb 22.

I see. Well, good luck with everything. Once you knock this sucker out, you'll only have BEC left, which is not even close to the hell of FAR and REG.

I need to add a caveat though…after you do all the questions, I think you should devote just a couple hours one night to reading through the law stuff. I was really shakey on it, but after reading through it and taking some hand-written notes, i feel comfortable enough with it to set it totally aside so that I can focus on the Tax portion.

Well I certainly appreciate your input and good luck to you as well. I definately will not ignore blaw, it is just that I needed some reassurance to focus more on tax

Make sure you nail down the tax stuff, but also be sure you know the B-Law stuff too….That can make or break your exam score…seriously….I failed REG once with a 74 and it was b/c of B-Law! 🙂

    REG 85 | FAR 85 | AUD 88 | BEC 76!!! DONE!!!!

    Hey Guys,

I am using Becker and I agree one hundred percent that Becker needs to spend more time on r2-r4 and less time on r5-r7. r5-r7 is only 21% of the total exam. Complete waste of time if you ask me, they should spend more time on ethics and Circular 230.

I didn't think ethics was on the REG exam anymore. I believe ethics is on the AUD exam now.

I didn't know it either, but I just checked AICPA website and apparently ethics is still part of reg. I took my exam in Nov and failed (pretty close though) and I can tell you I failed because of BLaw & Ehics stuff. Unfortunately I only got through Chapter 5 back then and didn't read any of supplemental stuff (including ethics). I'd say focus on Tax but go through BLaw and Ethics at least once- it's still 40% of the exam so it can make a difference….
