MemberHi, all –
I was out of college over 30 years, and I chose Becker because of the pass rate. I attended the live classes, because I wanted the structure that would force me to get going. Outside of class, I did pretty much everything they said to do, but mainly focused on the MCQ's. I also took the final review one day cram class for each section about two weeks before I sat for that section. I'm not young, so I needed for the process to be as efficient as possible, also I'm a controller for a small company.
I passed with decent scores. I had to retake BEC but that was probably because of the root canal I was dealing with during the week before the exam. I went back and redid all the MCQ's and passed with 84.
I paid half because I had paid for two sections years ago, so it cost me roughly $1700. But I would have shelled out the $3300 because now I'm done!
So IMHO Becker is worth it.

InactiveMy firm is paying for my Becker license so I didn't shell out any money but it does not change my opinion that Becker does an excellent job at preparing me for the exam. Their review program helped me pass my exams on the first try so I have nothing but positive remarks for it. Well, at least I hope I can say that in February when I get my BEC score. Lol.

InactiveNever tried any other options but I would gladly pay $3600 if I was certain they would give me the tools I needed to pass. I am saying that I found that Becker gives you the tools you need to pass. I mainly don't like how “Becker doesn't explain anything” gets thrown around because it is just a false statement.

MemberI will be using cpaexcel for both regulation and audit because I am taking classes for credit. I am also planning to use Beckers test bank for those parts. I will let you know my “unbiased” feelings in a month or so.
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

ParticipantI passed, so yes I would say it was worth it since it did what it was designed to do.
Is it overpriced compared to its competitors? I can't answer that as I never used any other product to supplement my studies.
I will agree with Mr Firsala on the TIME factor, from a couple perspectives:
– No product is designed well enough that you won't have to put in a significant amount of time in order to pass. I allotted myself one full week per chapter as well as another full week to review prior to the exam, logging ~20-30 hours per week (I work full-time and have two sons aged 5 & 2). Some will require more, others less, but the fact is that a significant investment is just as (if not more) important than the content of your materials.
– It is very important to be comfortable enough with the content of each section so you don't have to reinvent the wheel during the exam (I went down to the wire in every section except for BEC, mostly because I got lucky and had a ton of theory questions). Becker materials certainly make it possible to do that – I too scratch my head whenever I see the “Becker doesn't explain it” comments.
