MemberI love the audio that I got with Gleim and the Ninja 10 pt combo, because I listen to it over and over in the car during my commute. But I have to admit the Ninja audio is much more exciting than the Gleim (and my kids think its way cooler!).

MemberGeneral consensus is Becker is good as long as you don't pay for it (ie: company sponsored). I certainly wouldn't pay the hefty price tag of Becker if I had to foot the cost, but it's a good review program. Huge warning: A lot of people do not like the portions Tim Gearty covers (I think AUD, parts of FAR, and parts of REG). He is known for telling you to highlight basically the whole page.
Lilla has the right idea. Take a look at the sample lectures to find the best fit.
Becker
AUD: 98 (4/13)
BEC: 84 (5/13)
FAR: 91 (7/13)
REG: 91 (8/13)January 14, 2014 at 4:30 am #503690Meowmix77

MemberBecker Lectures aren't great for the non computational parts of the book, but they explain some of the computational and financial parts quite well. Its also easy and fast to zero in on those parts because you can just select the page.
I would go as far and say that the Becker test bank is way better than Wiley test bank in my opinion. I only went through about half of the 2011 Wiley Test Bank for FAR and I was sick and irritated, so take it for what it is worth(probably not much). I felt that Becker was more focused and the way the homework matches to sub chapters made it easy to gather information to develop the big picture concepts and connect ideas. CPA excel does something similar for a lot less money.
The Becker Sims and Authoritative Literature is identical to the format that you will find on the test. Same colors and everything:)
I like the Becker Books. Good spacing and relevant computational examples.
I think there is a chance it is the best program out there for people who don't primary value a cpa review course by their lectures.
Is it worth $3500? Probably not. I am sure that many people who fail repeatedly with Becker think that if they pay $3500 they shouldn't have to study a lot to pass(because it is that great!?)
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Inactive@CR7, I graduated in May 2012 and started studying May 2013, but I am doing a Master's degree in Tax at the same time. I was never the “best” at financial accounting, I think I got B's in both those classes, but I feel Becker adequately prepared me for it. People say all Becker does it make you “highlight this” and while there is a lot of highlighting, like it because it keeps me engaged in the lecture instead of drifting off into space. I probably have some type of undiagnosed ADD because I find it hard for me to pay attention a lot. 😉 So being told to highlight this and “write this down” is very good for me because I am engaged.
As for “not explaining anything..” couldn't be more far from the truth. I was never the best with Financial Accounting, some of the concepts like consolidation and pensions I have never even seen before, but I ended up very comfortable with both subjects because they explain many things thoroughly and accurately. Tim Gearty has a bad reputation but I like him and feel he does an excellent job showing you how to compute some of the toughest calculations.
You'll find a lot of Becker haters here but my scores don't lie, and I'm sure the other 99% of EWS winners wouldn't lie either 😉
Ultimately though, I think Lilla's advice is spot on. Watch demos and go from there.

MemberSo, I just passed using Becker. While working full time (50 hrs per week), 2 kids. All on the first try. I wasn't a 4.0 GPA kinda person either.
I chose Becker because I knew I wanted to pass on the first try with the least risk.
The biggest thing for me was with Becker, I was able to rewind, over, and over, and over again for the computations lectures til I understood the process. I know a lot of people don't like lectures. But sometimes, it's much more efficient to spend 10 minutes being shown how to make a computation than spend 2 hours trying to decipher the text of a complex process. And with the CPA exam, TIME is the real issue here.
